sweetbaby
I read a few threads about US History and I wanted to put in a plug for Belinda Bullard'sAfrican American History Program. There are really guides with notes, a few map activities and a few comprehensive questions along with a great literature list. At the back of the guides, you can also find neat finds such as a list of African American Inventors so that you can research bios. Her guides are similar to TruthQuest if you want a comparison. Each guide is $14.00 and it is used for 1 year. The guides are divided into two years for lower elementary and there are two years for middle/junior high levels. Unlike some History programs, her program is inclusive and not exclusive so you will learn American History in addition to African American History. We really enjoyed it. She also offers a character training curriculum. We are using MFW ECC this year but when we return to American History, we will use these to supplement. :001_smile: Edited January 24, 2009 by sweetbaby
Lori D.
Thanks for the recommendation, Kysha! It's great to have resources into themes, points of view, or people often overlooked in history! Warmest regards, Lori D.

micjayne
Is this a Christian program? Sorry, I'm not flagged with response to posts. I think both are. My link's blogger has links to TOG as well. Cheers, J.
Cynful
I went ahead and ordered this after I saw this post just so I could add in more African American History to our Sonlight Core 3 and Core 4 studies. Once I receive it, I'll give a review. She did email me and say she was updating the guides and so I'm waiting for that till she mails me the new ones. DawnL
Thanks for this! I am likely to start Sonlight next year, and I was also thinking this would be a good add-in with the Sonlight cores covering American History. That is awesome! Thank you! Think it's an anthology of African American History and Literature
Capt_Uhura
I have a rising 5th grader and a rising 2nd grader. I'm wondering if I should get both Our History and This Far by Faith. It seems these guides can be used easily by secular folk, can someone comment on this? Thanks, Capt_Uhura
