Dollhouse progression thread (was Merry Christmas to me!)

If it's on display, I'll get a piece of plexiglass to cover the front. It probably won't go to be played with as is, since my little critters stay with me, and kids tend to want more open ended play vs the carefully arranged scenes, so I'll probably send it with some more standard furniture pieces and keep things like my music room.

here's the next project house. The main piece is in decent shape-the rest not so much. Barbie scale is a LOT bigger than I usually work with, so I'm thinking I may end up repainting and decorating the main section, but not doing much to furnish it unless I can find some used furniture to upcycle, and sending it on.

The Barbie one will definitely be passed on just for size reasons, so I'm thinking I'll do that one as very kid-friendly.

The wood one probably will be, but I'm not really trying to make the furnishings kid friendly as opposed to replicating the actual center. I'm hoping to be able to put it on display for at least a bit as is, but expect to have to simplify it for play purposes-the art room easels, for example, will fall apart if you look at them cross eyed (although the glue does tend to cure over time and get stronger).

Does anyone know if the Mini Brands advent calendars are different from box to box? Walgreens has the toy one  at 80% off. I bought one, and am trying to decide if I should go back and get more.

From an Amazon review: "My only complaint is that it shows pictures of everything that is in the calendar, so you know what you’re going to be getting."

@Dmmetler Oh! But there are different calendars--purple, yellow, pink, and green (Disney) and they all look to contain different things!

They only have the Disney one at this Walgreens. I figured that it was worth getting one at the price, but I don't think I need multiples of the same toys.

I decided our rec sports coordinator needed an office-mostly since L and I found a set of sports buttons at JoAnn's. Besides, he's one of the sweetest, most cheerful guys I know, and is a big cheerleader for all our kids,

I may have to add some room boxes...there's a lot more that would be fun to build. IMG_1432.thumb.jpeg.01189ee47822742ee7aaee3516a89a65.jpeg

I started work on an addition, so I can add more rooms (and the building has had several additions, including the one built in the 1960's that's brick). It's wet and very cold (supposed to get snow over the next few days) so I'll paint it later.

It's foam board over CD cases. IMG_1444.thumb.jpeg.f70e063f3556c8fc198ec9d4c6374c8b.jpegIMG_1443.thumb.jpeg.33ff7ecdfdf4a071f75a2f54b902fdb1.jpeg

The addition is built. It won't get painted/shingled/floor staineduntil it warms up a lot. It's foam board, CD cases and craft sticks.

the neat thing is that it's completely collapsable and stores flat, although I'd probably glue it to be more stable if it ends up going to be played with.

I moved the dancers, pom and baton into it, and gives me a couple more rooms to do (preschool/after school care and Kendo).

Since it's cold and there's 5" of snow, I added the preschool. I'll add room decor once I get the walls painted. I also really want to make the grown up a Ms. Frizzle dress....IMG_1476.thumb.jpeg.8aeec7535e2c53f85c2461371ec61caf.jpegIMG_1475.thumb.jpeg.667de2c7bfaeb9347482e3a48642b2e0.jpegIMG_1474.thumb.jpeg.84e3bc16dcdd26930464cc0013007e55.jpegIMG_1472.thumb.jpeg.52d7e1a9f55c8cff3957cc44cdba1c93.jpegIMG_1471.thumb.jpeg.1bb28f8d106b7ab631ebdca38456f3b7.jpegIMG_1470.thumb.jpeg.1f8a934bc78f1e3a5e8180bbd5886080.jpeg

This was nice because I have picked up a bunch of little, mostly out of scale things that I was able to use

Wow, I love the preschool!

It's utilizing a lot of odd math manipulatives, pieces from a couple of mini pokemon play sets, I think some pieces from Ponyville or maybe Care Bears, books that I made, and some toys from a mini-bdand advent calendar. The little playhouse came from dollar tree. The little mouse baby is a tiny Hallmark Christmas figure from many years ago-I have a couple of little wood boxes of small treasures I collected as a kid :).

How did you make the classroom rug?  It's so cute?  And what about the little Dr. Seuss books?  How did you make those?

The rug is just laminated paper then glued on felt. I found a photo online and used it, and the books are the cover, resized in my silhouette software, added text for the spine, made a back cover, and then glued over corrugated cardboard. The thinner books are the same, but over a craft stick.

I'm a complete amateur compared to most of the folks in my group-they make stuff that looks real. Mine aren't that exact. But I'm having fun.

IMG_1477.thumb.jpeg.ebfd364ce4f838114b7bbc7b7a94f722.jpegAdded the kendo folks-and their practice dummy.

The masks are scraps of laminating film, permanent marker, and fabric, the wooden swords are match sticks. The dummy is a puffball, fabric, rubber bands, a straw, and the center of a spool of ribbon.

In the "some things don't quite work" department, I worked on blinds last night, but I think, looking at them today, they're way too thick-not having recessed windows makes a difference!  Maybe they'll work for the Barbie house? Although it's a lot more open...

Could you use strips of bread ties to make the blinds?  I think that would be a thinner appearance.

I tied to find a picute but all I'm coming up with are ones that are preseperated.  I know I've gotten ones where the are all stuck together so you could accordian fold them for blinds but I just can't find a picture of that kind right now.

This is an image of the preseparated kind in case my description wasn't good enough.

If I can find some, I may try that.  I can definitely do some form of flat blind or curtain.

If this snow continues and I don't get to work soon, I may end up dragging in the paint from the shed and doing my interior painting in the kitchen. I'm now to the point that most of what I want to do is decor, and I need to get the walls done first!

I use bamboo placemats for blinds in my houses. Something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/BambooMN-Bamboo-Slats-Placemat-with-Fabric-Border-Solid-Color-Print-18-x-13-Brown-4-pcs/656027283

I added a bunch of small details today. All added with painters tape, since the walls are primed, not painted. The mirrors are laminated aluminum foil, the blinds are scrap fabric and drinking straws, and the various posters and cheer banners are laminated printouts.

The shelves for the trophies slide on the border of the CD cases, so they come off and still let the CD cases store flat.

IMG_1507.thumb.jpeg.d2c3b7535510aeebaf671160e26c1ea0.jpegStarted working on the center office (where prep is underway for an upcoming Easter Egg Hunt) and the gym, which has Pickleball and Basketball going on currently. In both cases, they're kind of missing the "room" right now....IMG_1506.thumb.jpeg.52908e07bd0c71425d8ecdf329cbf5f7.jpegIMG_1505.thumb.jpeg.29e7265c935b905e9926414ffd670817.jpegIMG_1504.thumb.jpeg.1c19135295b4b87a4710371b39c2b1d4.jpegIMG_1503.thumb.jpeg.90fe26b7044bf75c56dcb50858d30327.jpeg
