ktgrok
Anyone had one? My wrist is still hurt from months ago and the Dr ordered am MRI. I chose the open one as I’m not sure how claustrophobic I am, but they only have one open machine. I might be able to get in sooner if I do the regular closed MRI. mso question is, does your whole body go in the machine for a wrist MRI? If so I think I’ll wait, sounds scary. But if not I’ll call and see if I can get in sooner with closed MRI. (Appt is on 27th)
prairiewindmomma
Yes, your whole body goes in to the mri machine if it is closed for a wrist mri. The donut part of the MRI machine spins to create the magnetic field. With an open mri, you might be able to lay down and put your arms above your head, but I don’t know. I would ask. To the bolded - this is how mine was. I laid on my stomach and put my wrist up over my head.
ktgrok
Ok, Open MRI it is! I'll wait an extra week. I get a bit panicky watching people crawl through small spaces on TV, or reading about them in books. Pretty sure that means I would NOT do well in a closed MRI. Harriet Vane
Mine was in a regular MRI machine. I first had a shoulder MRI that required me to go IN the machine. For the wrist, I was OUT of the machine with my arm extended above my head into the machine.
stephanier.1765
In my latest MRI, I was able to sit and could see out the entire time. It didn't feel like I was in a machine at all. Mine was for the liver so I'm not sure how that particular method would work for a wrist. You could also ask your doctor for something to help with anxiety. I do this for closed MRIs but you need someone to drive you home.

Add in having to coordinate a ride and meh. I'll deal for an extra week or whatever.
Starr
I find it helpful to have my eyes closed with a washcloth over my eyes and ask them to give you time updates along the way. Something like, this first take is 3.5 minutes, that's done, 25 minutes to go etc.
Drama Llama
Hey @ktgrok How are you doing? Did it go smoothly? Did it lead to solutions? My youngest is having a wrist MRI, and I'm curious what your experience was. Would you be willing to describe it?
