milovany
My daughter is in vet tech training and wanted a stethoscope for Christmas. Is getting one engraved something people do? Just a thought I wondered tonight.
underthebridge
Yes, definitely can. But to be honest, I have only seen very senior MD’s with an engraved stethoscope, ie head of cardiology or pulmonology. Personally, I would have been embarrassed to have an engraved stethoscope, but I may be in the minority.
Jean in Newcastle
Dh says that many other nurses have engraved stethoscopes. So it is a thing for some. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Supertechmom
At the hospital, most engrave it so when it sprouts legs and walks away it can be found again.
wathe
Absolutely yes. As pp noted, they tend to walk.
melmichigan
Absolutely! All the nurses on our floor have roughly $200 invested in their cardiology stethoscopes. They are all engraved so that when a physician borrows one, they find their way back. ;) Edited December 13, 2017 by melmichigan

kroe1
Do it. Go one step further and get her an electronic one.
displace
They also sell tags that attach easily, making it more practical. An engraved stethoscope needs to be inspected, a tag can be seen easily from a distance.

Duh!

I've misplaced it countless times in the hospital over 20 years and it has always come home. :)
milovany
Thanks for all the advice! I was thinking more for sentimental reasons LOL, but see that engraving has a larger practical purpose. Very helpful! If she's just starting and getting a less expensive model then maybe not, but once you get into the Littmann Cardiology scopes I would consider it an investment. Think of it as $200 laying around waiting for someone to pick it up. ;) Edited December 14, 2017 by melmichigan
milovany
Got it! I think I'll get her one of the tags if she wants one. It is a Littman, but the one on her required materials list cost $80 not $200 so maybe she'll advance later.
Jaybee
Two of my girls are nurses, and they both have them. In fact, the older gave the younger one an engraved stethoscope for her college graduation.
