Crohn's Disease

My adult daughter has been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I am encouraging her to seek a second opinion as well as other treatment options. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good Crohn's/IBD clinic/specialist?

This has been so, so difficult!

I was incorrectly diagnosed with Crohn's in my mid 20's so please tell her it happens. Definitely get the second opinion. I had a new gastro doc who specializes in Crohn's do my second. My dh found him through a colleague. Part of my switching was because I didn't care for my first doctor. I did really like the second one, not just because he said the other doctor who had been his resident several years previous was wrong. ;)

My dh has had this since mid teens.  It is rampant in his family from siblings to 2nd and 3rd cousins and aunts and uncles and so I have kept a close eye on my kids.  Finding the right gastro is so important.

The Specific carbohydrate diet is a great place to start.  If it flares up then he do a no fiber diet for a few weeks and that seems to calm things down.  Occasionally he will fast or just have liquids.

The old saying "Everything old is new again" seems to be true for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet as well.  There's a book by Dr. Suskind, a local pediatric gastroenterologist, called Nimbal Therapy which is mostly based on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.  They have a doctor finder at the Nimbal website...most will be pediatric gastro drs, but it looks like there are some drs. for adults as well.

DD has Crohn's and I fired 2 GI's because all they did was push biologics and we wanted more options,

Specific carbohydrate diet is the way to go.

Laurie is right about scd and Dr Suskind is a well known authority in this space.

My friend Shannon Eavenson wrote a book after her son was diagnosed and its mostly based on SCD.

Her son and my DD see the same GI.

Please feel free to pm.

 GL to you and DD!
