MomOfABunch
DS1 will finish Calc this December (AoPS course). I'm researching options for math beyond Calc for him other than DE at our local community college. What options are there? My husband and I are throwing around the idea of doing some extensive traveling in the near future and being tied to the DE CC schedule isn't going to work. Arcadia
There is Stanford OHSx (Continuing studies) which has a proctored exam to take. http://ohsx.stanford.edu/university-math There is also CTY JHU math courses which doesn't have a proctored exam http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/courses/mathematics/multivariable_calculus.html http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/courses/mathematics/ My oldest has not decided whether he want to take MVC or Linear Algebra so I have no experience with the above. He has finished the AoPS calculus online class in April and taken the AP Calculus BC exam in May. He wants a course with a tutor, not a MOOC. If your son doesn't mind MOOC, there are much more choices. ETA: My kid wants to self study statistics for now so we haven't look for a course. My kid also does not like to talk unless it is a B&M class and many kids are talking. He prefers typing only for online. cjzimmer1
My oldest took multi variable calc, differential equations and complex analysis with John Rosasco at mathandmusicstudio.com There was a set class time but he often logged in while we were on the go. Much easier to join an online class while traveling than an in person one.

I tried the Math link on the front page, but it is giving one of those horrible glitchy errors that sometimes happen to threads on here & won't let me in. So glad you posted this so I don't have to drive myself crazy searching for it tonight. :hurray: (I remembered that there was music involved & his name was John, but I spelled it Jon in my searches. Thus, nothing useful showed up!)
MomOfABunch
This gives me some hope! Thank you. I guess I need a little advice on what course will come next also. DS1 has done the AoPS series from Alg 1 - Calc. He is planning to take the AP BC exam this year, and assuming he scores well, will get credit for Calc 1 and 2. He is most likely headed for a math degree, but at age 15, everything is a bit up in the air. So, seeing a math degree as a high probability for him, I want to make sure that whatever family decisions we make, he is moving steadily ahead in math. quark
We have used John but beware his prices. If you can get into a group class, it is more affordable. We moved the other way, from John to dual enrollment at the CC and our local uni for calculus onwards. My child liked John when his fees were more affordable but needed a classroom environment after many years of online math. Arcadia
My oldest is going for the AoPS WOOT class. I know someone did the WOOT class concurrently with the Calculus class in 2016/17 and had fun. He is aiming for engineering and finance currently, and is doing math competitions for fun. https://artofproblemsolving.com/school/course/woot Other AoPS classes your son might be interested in Group Theory https://artofproblemsolving.com/school/course/grouptheory Olympiad Geometry https://artofproblemsolving.com/school/course/olympiad-geometry We moved the other way, from John to dual enrollment at the CC and our local uni for calculus onwards. If your son is free, could you ask what his recommendation would be for my oldest who likes his math to be both theoretical and applied. His sciences this year would hopefully fulfill his need for applied math but he doesn't like his math to be too theoretical either so AoPS group theory class and Olympiad geometry class are keep in view for 2017/18. If your son is busy don't bother him. Hope he has a great freshman year ahead.
MomOfABunch
Would he be able to get college credit for these classes? How would that work?
Arcadia
Would he be able to get college credit for these classes? How would that work? For the AoPS classes my kids can get high school credits as they are UC (California) a-g approved/certified. It won't be college credits. The colleges that my oldest is keen on has math and physics placement tests regardless of college credit so I didn't take college credit into consideration. Those were what we tried in the past. Since you live closer to this than we do, check out Euler Circle in Palo Alto as well. Other options might be self studying the myriad free pdfs online e.g. introductory texts on abstract algebra for example. I think I bookmarked them in my siggy thread! And thanks Arcadia. We are both very excited about what's in store this year. Good luck to your son too. The AoPS Group Theory class was such a hit here when they ran the beta class 2 years ago.

daijobu
AoPS publishes a book called Intermediate Counting and Probability. My dd and I learned a lot of new material from that book. The material is often presented in a class called Discrete Math.
RegGuheert
We use Chalk Dust for math and we have been able to purchase video course material from the same publisher through Calc 3. Please let me know if you are interested in the ISBN numbers.
