Cake and Pi
I see that base-ten blocks are available in foam as well as the blue plastic that I'm familiar with. Is one material better than the other? The plastic ones are seriously loud, so I was thinking of buying foam, but I have concerns about their durability and malleability. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these and can compare them?
HomeAgain
We had one set of foam. I think they're great for kids who have short fingernails and clean hands.
Arcadia
Plastic, because my kids tend to destroy the foam ones. My kids public charter at that time issued the plastic blue ones for my DS11 when he was in Kindergarten. He used those as building blocks instead of for math. Safe for teething toddlers (guest) too. This is what we were issued https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Base-Ten-Starter-Kit/dp/B000F8VBBO
SparklyUnicorn
I never tried foam, but I have one who chews things so I bet he'd end up chewing them.
raristy
We love our plastic ones!
blendergal
We have a foam set and it kind of annoys me how lightweight they are. When we want to line ones up against a ten for comparison, the little buggers float all over the table.
desertstrawberry5
we have foam. They are pretty fumbly. Mine are from the dollar tree. We don't use them much. I wouldn't recommend them if you plan to use them more than maybe never.
vickjul
We use the plastic ones. The foam ones always seem to find their way into someone's mouth, plus they cannot be cleaned well.
