Angela Harris (former Bravewriter teacher) is offering a lit and writing class that looks interesting for one of my children. Did any of your students ever have her as a Bravewriter teacher? Any input on her teaching style, feedback on student's writing, how you and your child enjoyed it, how much they learned, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ?

Lukeion's Composition & Research class
raristy replied to RootAnn's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
In another forum someone commented this, "My kids have just finished Randee Batty’s class, “Research and Composition†at Lukeion.org. I was blown away by the improvement in my son’s writing thanks to this course. Mrs Batty provides the best constructive criticism we’ve come across and it worked. My son went from being a disorganized writer who paid no attention to grammar, to an excellent one who structured his thoughts well and became a grammar nazi." She kindly gave me permission to share her comments here. RootAnn, is this the class you wanted to learn more about?? Hope this helps :) -
I am thinking of enrolling my child in Bravewriter's "Writer's Jungle." Any particular instructors you and your students have loved and learned a lot from? Please let me know. Thanks :)

Is this AoPs online class a 1 credit or 0.5 credit class? Would you consider it less, about as, or more difficult than AoPS Intro Counting & Probability? Please let me know your thoughts on AoPS Online Intermediate Counting & Probability class and also of any resources your child found helpful. Thanks much!

From my own experience and after having tried different methods to teach my children my mother tongue, I think one of the best way to learn vocabulary is in context. Have him find a sentence that uses the word, memorable if possible (funny or out of sorts). Read and study the sentence. If not too much work, as mentioned before add a picture relating to the word. Anki is a good flashcard study tool. They have 1001 Most Usedul Spanish Words and Sentences. Google TPRS, an excellent method to learn foreign languages. Youtube has couple of videos showing the method. If possible, consider scheduling 25 minute sessions with a Spanish tutor at least once a week. We've used Homeschool Spanish Academy. Some of their tutors have very good teaching methods. Look for the ones that let the student finish their sentences, elaborate on their sentences (exposing them to new words), and if necessary, restate the sentences with corrections. We stay away from tutors who interrupt to correct.

How long to get SAT Subject Exam scores?
raristy replied to yvonne's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
You might have seen this already, CollegeBoard has new SAT subject release dates. "New Score Release Policies: We’re making changes to help you get scores and send them to colleges faster than before. Here’s what you need to know about the 2017-18 school year: October, November, December, and May scores will be released about two weeks after test day. You’ll receive an email when your scores are ready. We’ll send your scores to colleges within 10 days after they’re available to you. August and June scores may take longer—up to six weeks for all scores." https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/scores/getting-scores -
I wanted to let all of you know about a wonderful class Cindy Lange at Integritas Academy will be offering this Fall. It's Critical Thinking for Upperclassmen a course that "engages students in a college style seminar format. Student papers will reflect the high level of Socratic conversation we engage in during class when we will analyze, critique, and appreciate significant texts as preparation for college level thinking." You can learn more about this class at http://www.integritasacademy.com/about-register.html Many of you already know Cindy. She has developed curriculum for and taught at live online schools: she spent five years at Veritas Press Academy Online and three years at Wilson Hill Academy. She is a wonderful teacher, brings out the best in her students. My daughter loved her class two years ago and is eager to take this class. Thought some of you might be interested. Rosa

Students learn a lot through Homeschool Spanish Academy (HSA). They are very flexible to tailor the teaching methods to what works with your student. I am very fond of a foreign language teaching approach (TPRS) and they are very nice to accommodate for that. My kids do other formal curricula besides HSA, but having the opportunity to speak with a native is key to significant progress in learning a foreign language and HSA provides that. I am not familiar with Potter's School. They seem to have an AP Spanish class with a very good track record. I believe they have some sample recordings of their classes. Rosa

I believe about a year ago someone posted the listing of the 2016-2017 classes of a certain online school. One of the class choices was for an Aleks subscription with a live math tutor. This option provided a certain number of live tutoring hours for the student to schedule to discuss any knowledge gaps. I can't find the post!!! Please help! Thanks a lot, Rosa
