Seasider
Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mewed (No actual spoiler in this post but read further at your own risk!) ETA it's actually book #8, I miscounted. What did you think of the ending? Edited February 12, 2017 by Seasider
Innisfree
I was not surprised, but I was sorry. Hasn't poor Flavia gone through enough?

Onceuponatime
I was so mad at the author. He has some lovely turns of phraseology too. I love his books. It's not like you couldn't see the end coming, but I didn't want to believe it. Can we just call this a "series of unfortunate events."
Miss Tick
It is never going to get happy, is it? <sob> <sniff> That's fine, I'm a grown-up, I can take it, that is just not what I was expecting when i started reading the books. In fact, with every book (or story) so far I have held out hope midway for a happy ending.
Seasider
I guess I should have seen it coming, but it surprised me. I may be awful myself, though, because there have been times when I've not liked Flavia's father. But I never expected Bradley to kill him off! I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one coming out sometime in 2017. I do hope to see something give in Flavia's relationship with her sisters. Or see her officially put into secret service for the country. She just can't keep stumbling across dead bodies, isn't she up to 9 or 10 now? Every January friends post about this or that book challenge they're participating in for the year. I think it would be fun to have a Read Every Classic Mentioned in a Flavia de Luce Novel reading challenge. One day I'll have to go back through the books and make a list.
Ali in OR
I didn't mind him dying (that doesn't sound right...), but I did mind that Flavia never got to see him alive again.
Seasider
Oh, something crossed my mind as I read. Maybe Dieter - Bronte fan - will end up with Daffy instead of Feely. Something really inspiring that I read today, Bradley was 70 years old when he published the first Flavia book! And it was the first novel he'd ever written.
Storygirl
I saw it coming when she was continually prevented from visiting him in the hospital. Poor Flavia! It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the next book. I'm wondering if her aunt will return to oversee the household.
mumto2
I was so sad that she wasn't able to visit him.
