Dd#1 - very tentative, as you will see.

Math: Pre-Calc w/Wilson Hill or Foerster at home Looking increasingly like I'll be teaching pre-calc at home since WHA is switching texts for next year & I already have the one they are switching from and Foerster. I'm not keen on buying yet another text (esp. a $$ one) plus paying for the $$$$ class.

Science: none

History: US History from WW1 to present (home grown)

English: Bravewriter (not sure if we should start w/Kidswrite Int. or Exp Essay), Shakespeare comedies maybe through Online G3.

Spanish 4 (looking for a provider - Potters School or Wilson Hill or ??) looks like Wilson Hill is the winner based on the open house class DD sat in on

German 1? (WTMA, CLRC, or maybe former Landry teacher?)

Health 0.5 & Music 0.5 credit w/Great Courses w/younger sister maybe.

Other electives up in the air- computer programming or something taught locally w/friends.

Still working on it. Except for Russian, none of these are firm yet.

English: Either AP English Language with PA Homeschoolers or DE

Precalculus: Derek Owens

Physics: Clover Creek

U.S. History: Home

Russian II: By the Onion Sea

Geography (Sem1) / American Govt (Sem2)

Keep working on Fine Arts credit and Health/PE credit.

Much depends on whether or not he starts DE at the local university. He will apply next week.

US History: suggestions welcome for a STEM kid who has no interest in history

Maybe he would be more interested in an approach that looks closely at prominent people throughout history? You could utilize biographies, autobiographies, documentaries, movies, diaries, letters, newspaper accounts. Comparing and contrasting the way the same person is portrayed in different works would be a great assignment.

For more recent times, youtube is a treasure trove of speeches and actual events. It's one thing to read about Tiananmen Square, and another thing entirely to see a real person standing in front of a real tank.

Or what about history through a STEM lens? Lord knows I heard more about Eli Whitney and his cotton gin than I ever wanted to - what other inventions and advances have changed the way people live and work? Weapons, computers, the space race, you could definitely build a course.

You could combine this somewhat with the biographical approach - who were the scientists and mathematicians and so forth behind the advances? That's a treasure trove of social science right there, bc they certainly weren't always known or appreciated. Black soldiers, Navajo code talkers, the tragedy of Alan Turing, the new movie about the long-ignored black female scientists of NASA . . .

For Sure:

1) Saxon Advanced Math with WTMA

2) Spanish II (local co-op. I am currently heavily praying that their schedule coordinates with ours next year. Their co-op meets on our busiest day of the week, so we only have a tiny window of time available...)

3) English

AP English Language @ Blue Tent

Uncertain:

4) Science

Most likely Chemistry through a local co-op. Perhaps Physics (same co-op). This will likely depend on scheduling...

5/5.5) History

most likely US History at the CC?

6/7) Electives

I have no idea. It looks like we have the "basics" covered at home/co-ops. So if she takes US History at the CC, we will want to do at least one other dual-enrollment class. No idea what, though!

We need to make time to pull up the majors she's currently interested in and see what classes she can take that would go towards those degrees for sure. She's planning a couple CLEP credits, but we sure haven't worked out which those will be. We've gotta get on that. . .

Pretty much 100% of her classes will be outsourced next year, which will be a beeeeautiful thing. She is 100% independent and on top of things when she isn't answering to me. :thumbup1:

DS is starting 11th grade in one week, unless he has already started it in August.  (Kind of depends on which hemisphere he decides to attend university.

So my plans for this year:

Courses at local University

Analysis and Topology (or something like that)

 Calc 3

Correspondence School using NZ national assessments:

English

Biology

Chemistry (1/4 class left over from last year)

Courses taught at home through reading and lectures with Coursera/EdX

Philosophy (1/2 class, first half done last year)

Economics (1/2 class)

Current Events (1/4 class for each of 4 years) using The Economist, Sci Am, and Nat Geo

Classes with tutor

Computing -- AoPS Intro and Intermediate python (1/2 credit)

Music with a tutor (Trinity exam at end of year)

Mandarin with a tutor and Boya (1/2 class)

Extracurriculars

Maths

    -- WOOT through AoPS

-- Squad and Team training for IMO

-- IMO (he still has to make the team, but pretty likely)

PE

    -- Martial Arts (3 hrs/week)

    -- Badminton (4.5 hrs/week)

++++++++++

I think this is 7ish classes worth of credits. NZ has exam-based university entrance rather than a transcript, so I'm kind of feeling my way into transcript credits that are not through the NZ national system. DS is revving up to apply to elite universities in America.  Yiikes!
