cjzimmer1
So I've had a front loader for the last 8 years and have been using a TBSP of Tide HE despite the huge measuring cup they provide. So now that I'm going back to a top loader, I've totally forgotten what to use in them. Can I still use up my huge box of Tide HE? Do I need to use more soap? Are liquids better (I seem to remember always using liquids in the past and switched to powder when I got the front loader)? Thanks,

Chelle in MO
I use a small amount of Tide Free powder. An appliance repairman that I trusted once told me not to use the liquids in the washer or dishwasher because they were responsible for a lot of the clogs that the machines experience. That was a number of years ago, so the liquids may be better now.

Cinder
We used liquid All in the front loader and currently in the SQ. I'm pretty sure we did use less as the front loader used a lot less water.
KS_
I use Tide Free liquid (much less than the recommended amount). I really prefer powder, but for a long time have had a difficult time finding Tide Free powder - my grocery store doesn't seem to be carrying it anymore. KungFuPanda
I did homemade for a while. It worked, I just needed more washing soda and got out of the habit of making it. I bought the big bucket of cheap stuff at Costco and it lasted forever. I replaced it with the big bucket of tide at Costco and my family complained about the strong smell. I need to get another big bucket of the Costco stuff or make some. I think the detergent just assists and the water does the bulk of the cleaning work.
