1GirlTwinBoys
I'm asking this for my SIL. She has been oil pulling for 2 weeks and LOVES the results. She had a crown put in 1 1/2 years ago and it came out the other day. She doesn't want to stop the oil pulling but is concerned that this can happen from doing it after she gets the crown replaced. Thoughts??
Seasider
I'm glad you asked. I am contemplating oil pulling but no way do I want to lose my crowns!
ChocolateReignRemix
I have never heard that but it kind of makes sense that a loose crown could have that happen.
Guest
No more than sucking on a wendy's frosty could. Anything with vigorous suction could pop a crown loose, so as long as she is gentle with her swishing and the crown was properly applied she should be fine. Cinder
Hmm. When I want to get a sticky label off a jar I rub oil or butter on it and it breaks down the glue so it all just washes off with soap. I wonder if enough oil could get into the glue parts of the crown and cause it to loosen?
Stibalfamily
I have heard of this before. I would say it has the potential to do so.
GailV
It probably has the potential, particularly if the crown isn't on there that well. A couple of years ago I had a crown come flying out when I flossed. But, you know, I still floss. I remember once reading (or maybe a dentist told me) how long to actually expect fillings and crowns to last. It was sort of depressing -- I used to assume they'd last forever. SquirrellyMama
I kept losing the same crown with all three of my pregnancies. The dentist insisted they weren't related. I had another dentist tell me it was a possibility. Kelly

I was talking with ds's childhood friend - he's in dental school - the gold will expand and contract at the same rate as the real tooth. (re: temperature changes.) porcelain and other materials don't, so they have a shorter lifespan. My current dentist did a residency in florida, near some of the retirement communities. he saw a lot of 30 - 40 year old gold crowns. dh has a gold crown that predates our marriage. they cost twice as much (depending upon what gold is going for), but they last more than twice as long. lollie010
I attribute the loss of my crown to oil pulling. And, yes, I loved the results of oil pulling, but after extensive dental care have stopped.
