Woodland Mist Academy
Not for a forensic science class, but for chemistry dd used Investigating Chemistry: A Forensic Science Perspective.
mumto2
Dd took this course via Courserahttps://www.coursera.org/course/ntufsc. Not sure when it will be offered again. She loved it. Florida Virtual School also offers Forensic Science. A friend's son enjoyed the course. Forensics illustrated http://bsapp.com/forensics_illustrated/ is a site I bookmarked years ago due to a wtm discussion. At that time someone was selled a kit to go with the labs.
Martha in GA
My dd used the shared resources from GA Virtual Learning http://www.gavirtuallearning.org/Resources/ScienceResources/ScienceShared/SharedForensicScience.aspx
Queserasera
Those that are linking online virtuals, can anyone take those or do you have to be registered?
The Girls' Mom
My dd did, but she took it though our co-op with a lady that went all out. She learned so much, and has chosen Forensic Science as her major/career path. This teacher even stages an elaborate hands-on crime scene at her home for a final each year. mumto2
Those that are linking online virtuals, can anyone take those or do you have to be registered? I believe Florida Virtual is free to Florida residents who are registered with their school district. I think non residents can take the courses for a fee, I believe those are through a different company. Maybe the K12 people?
Mom22ns
We used the Forensic Science textbook by Saferstein with this website, the Illustrated Guide to Home Forensic Science Experiments, and lots of CSI episodes. This is almost exactly what we did. We did throw in some additional web resources. It was a fun!
katilac
Sadly, dd decided on geology (fun but not AS fun!) for next year, but below are the links I gathered for high school forensics. I have only taught a short, small group forensics class that wasn't close to a credit. This was mostly junior high and a couple of high schoolers. All hands-on stuff was a big hit. We used the CSI kits for some of it, but they don't seem to be available anymore, and pulled from the web links for some diy. We did blood spatter (very popular, lol), plaster castings for teeth and tires and so on, fiber identification, unknown substance analysis, lots of DNA stuff, fingerprints, all kinds of things. And of course had a murder to solve in the last class. If she can do labs with a friend or two, that definitely adds to the fun. http://www.nclark.net/ForensicChem (not a complete course but lots of good activities, info, and links) http://www.bsapp.com/forensics_illustrated/index.html (complete course) http://www.yadkin.k12.nc.us/webpages/jsewell/forensics.cfm?subpage=874638 (looks like a complete course) http://www.forensicpage.com/new09.htm (links) http://www.gavirtuallearning.org/Resources/ScienceResources/ScienceShared/SharedForensicScience.aspx (georgia virtual learning complete course) http://forensics.rice.edu/index.html (games)
