Ottakee
Our 12 year old wanta an iPod touch for Christmas. Is a 2nd generation one worth buying? Or a shuffle? Our budget is $50 max. Is a Zen or other brand just as good but cheaper? Basically he wants dh to download music on it. I don't want internet access unless I can parental control that for time of day, etc.
Arcadia
I have an ipod touch 4th gen and the battery barely last an hour. Also the OS cannot be updated so most of my apps are outdated but still works. I would not buy a 2nd gen.
Guest
You'd be better off with a shuffle. Longer battery life and no worrying about all the app issues that you would have with a Touch.
TammyS
My dh's 4th gen doesn't update anymore, so it's becoming less usable all the time. Plus there's the internet thing. A good music player is Sansa Zip or Clip. Much cheaper, good players.
klmama
According to musicians I know, the iPod Shuffle has much better sound quality than most players. If your dc isn't a musician, it may not matter as much.
kitten18
No, it wouldn't be worth it.
Denise in IN
You would be better off going with a Sansa Clip. You can get a decent one for $50, works well for music.
Ottakee
Thanks. I think that dh would like him to get the Sansa as that is super easy to transfer music, etc.
BlsdMama
Hm. I disagree. We have three iPods that are 3rd generation touches. They all work great. We picked them up for about $35-$50 each and they've been well worth it. While I could see a more expensive iPod being worthwhile for an older teen, our middles and littles use them a lot so i really didn't want to spend anything on them that would give me a heart attack if they needed replaced. For playing music, they work great. They also work well for podcasts and audiobooks. :) Buying another 3rdG Touch for DS (10) this winter.
