Sebastian (a lady)
How did your dc thank those writing recommendation letters for them? Just a card/thank you note or something more? I'm suggesting just a note except for one long time teacher who went above and beyond.
Tanaqui
How many people wrote recommendation letters for your kid? If it's a bazillion people, dc should just write them all notes. No need to break the bank! If it's one person, and they really were effusive with the praise, a note and a gift card.
regentrude
A note, and definitely an update what happened with college admission or scholarship (depending on what the letter was for). The recommender will want to know whether the letter had any effect and will be thrilled if it did. A gift is not necessary.
Kareni
After making her final decision from the acceptances that she had received, my daughter gave both of the women who wrote her recommendations a bouquet of flowers, a few edible goodies, her thanks, and the news as to where she would be attending.Regards, Kareni
TheApprentice
My son wrote a personal message in each Thank You card and one particular teacher did above and beyond, so he included a gift card. They showed interested on wanting to know where he ends up going, so he'll probably let them know.
daijobu
Make sure to keep your recommenders apprised of their acceptances and plans.
justkeepswimming
Love this thread, I'd been wondering the same thing! So, it's normal, then, to wait until acceptances/decisions before thanking the recommendation letter writers? I think we're going to borrow Kareni's idea for the main letter-writers for dd. They were SO wonderful for dd to work with on this - had the letters written within DAYS of her requesting their assistance. After making her final decision from the acceptances that she had received, my daughter gave both of the women who wrote her recommendations a bouquet of flowers, a few edible goodies, her thanks, and the news as to where she would be attending.Regards, Kareni
readwithem
My dd got small Amazon gift cards for her recommenders. ETA actually I think that was for grad school. I'm getting old.
