Truscifi
Is anyone experienced with a bad sprain and possible dislocation? My pinky finger was accidentally stepped on August 14th during a martial arts test. I went the next day and had an xray, which showed no break. At the time I asked about other imaging because I couldn't move it and it rolled when it was stepped on. The PA said it was probably just bruised and they didn't need to do anything else, just buddy tape it and follow up if it didn't get better. It did get somewhat better, but not completely. It will not straighten or bend fully though I have about 2/3 my normal range of motion. It is very crooked. The second joint is still very swollen and lumpy. And it hurts whenever I move it or bump it. I did see my regular doctor who said she would refer me to an orthopedist if I wanted but there might not be anything they can do this long after the injury. So has anyone BTDT? Is it worth the expense of seeing an orthopedist, getting scans, all that? What is the normal healing time for this type of injury?
Ali in OR
No experience with this injury, but after two months and still having issues, I would see an orthopedist now. I wouldn't just accept that it won't heal without more diagnostics and an expert opinion.
El...
I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound right to me. A friend had a broken digit that didn't show on the first x-ray. ETA: Wait a minute, two months ago? No. That's not good. You should definitely see the specialist.

fraidycat
Hands are pretty important. I think it's time to see the orthopedist.

Truscifi
Yeah, at first I was thinking it's just the pinky, how important is it really.... Pretty important actually. I can't grip things properly with that hand now. Well, I can grip, just not tightly. And I bump it all.the.time.
texasmama
See an orthopedist. An ER physician missed a break in my dh's knuckle of his middle finger on his right hand about 14 years ago and the result is that it is now surgically fused at a 90 degree angle and will never move again. Had it been caught faster, it could have been fixed.
Truscifi
I have an appointment to see the orthopedist on Tuesday. I was able to find a hand specialist locally.
El...
Good! And that was nice and quick for an appointment, too!
dancingmama
That's good. My husband has a broken pinky that never healed right and although it's livable, you'd rather not have to do that if you can avoid it.
