Tap
I was reading this story and it made me wonder.. Humans sheer sheep to take their wool. But are they naturally supposed to look like Chris the sheep? Or is he a product of breeding? When I saw the first picture, I thought is was just a ball of wool laying there. Then I realized there was a face!
Katy
I've never raised sheep so I'm no expert, but I think it's breeding. I think I read an article once where a sheep was nearly crippled because its wool hadn't been cut.
tm919
I think wild sheep shed their coats naturally. That poor sheep looks uncomfortable!
Sdel
Breeding....but if he's castrated then he is no ram. Stefanie
MercyA
The poor sweetheart! :( I'm so glad he was rescued. He must feel so much better now. Some interesting articles: http://modernfarmer.com/2013/07/will-sheep/ http://farmsanctuary.typepad.com/sanctuary_tails/2009/04/shearing-rescued-sheep.html
kiana
Wild sheep shed in spring. Humans have bred them to not shed so that we can collect the wool all at once and at our convenience.
Pawz4me
I'm sure not a sheep expert, but I'd guess it's breeding. Just like dogs -- if they'd been left to their own devices with no interference from humans you sure wouldn't see dogs like poodles and Shih Tzus who need regular brushing and/or trimming to avoid becoming matted messes roaming the face of the earth. ;)
fairfarmhand
Breeding. We have sheep that naturally shed their coats. We use them for weed control. They are "wilder" than wool sheep.
