tmstranger
Has anyone here used this? I had never heard of it and recently met a mom who told me she used for her son because SWB recommended it. Then yesterday, I saw it on a used curriculum site...so, now I'm curious. We are currently using LFC Primer A.
Ethel Mertz
We first used Song School Latin and then went to Minimus. Unfortunately, we didn't do well with Minimus. I think that's because it is a whole-to-parts program and DS learns better from a parts-to-whole method. We're now in LFC and love it. tmstranger
hmmm...I guess it's just not as well-known as LFC or Memoria Press and some others. It looks cute.
Sherry in OH
My children (ages 7 and 9) love Minimus. Minimum is light and fun. The only other program we've used is Song School Latin so I can't offer comparisons.
Momling
My kids loved Minimus! I can't say they remember much, but I'm pretty sure that's the case with all Latin programs in elementary school.
Aurelia
DD likes it better than GSWL.
Laura Corin
I used the first book and part of the second with Calvin. The first book was a fun introduction to Latin - no retention, but that's not really the aim of the programme: it was written (by one of my old Latin teachers) to interest children in Latin, so they would go on to serious study, probably using Cambridge, which is in a similar style. When we tried to use the second book, we started to get bogged down in too much vocabulary and too much unexplained grammar. At that point, Calvin was old enough to move to Latin Prep (10-ish), which was much more explicit.
JDoe
Used Minimus and believe it to be a good (soft and fun) introduction to Latin.
SanDiegoMom
We started it and got so lost with the whole to parts issue and switched to Lfc. We might go back to it after primer A just to read it and understand it better. I got the teacher resource guide and loved all the activities, but the actual Latin was giving us so much trouble we had to stop!
Lisa in the UP of MI
As others have mentioned, it is a whole to parts curriculum. It worked wonderfully for my oldest dd, who was bored by most parts to whole curricula.
JoJosMom
We used and loved both Minimus and Minimus Secundus.
