AimeeM
I picked up The Gift of the Magi, and while a great read aloud for DD13, it is far over the heads of my DS5 and, obviously, my DS2. I'm looking for something (preferably a Christmas book, but I'm not stuck on that) that imparts a similar lesson/story. Any ideas?
*Lulu*
Isn't there a passage in the Little House series where Pa sells a prized possession to get something for Ma?
Joker
There is a Little House episode that we watch every year that is similar. I think it's the Christmas episode from first season.

AimeeM
Thanks guys. I'm looking more for a book, as opposed to a movie or television show - only because I add to our collection every year at this time ;) BLA - I know there is somewhere... and I have the whole collection, but for the life of me I can't recall which book or where the passage is, lol. Off to google!
Word Nerd
Emmett Otter was a children's book by Russell Hoban before it was a Muppet TV special. :)

Ipsey
It's not a book, but we like watching this each year. (Even my teen.) :)
zoobie
Too Many Tamales -- not an equivalent, but an item of value is lost. Sweet story.
Chelli
There's Good and Perfect Gifts by Barry Moser. It's a retelling of The Gift of the Magi set in modern-day rural Southern US. It is still a longer picture book though (22 pages with quite a few words on the pages). We read it every year, but usually spread it over a couple of nights for the little ones. Dory
On itunes Adventures in Odyssey has a version called The Gifts of Madge and Guy. It's a really cute and simple version and really fun.
