sassenach
to give me an age rec? It's been at least 15 years since I read it, but today ds 12 asked if he could. I can't remember what the sexual content/language level was.
fdrinca
It was assigned summer reading before my freshman year, which would be 13-14 age? But this school also did things like assign Flowers for Algernon to 8th graders, so I don't think language/adult topics was a limiting factor. ocelotmom
I read it around the time the movie came out, so I would have been about 12. I don't remember anything racy, and at that age, if it's racy, you notice. But it's been over 20 years, so I can't vouch for certain. *Lulu*
I don't think there is much sexual content, but the f-bomb gets dropped a bit. (Says the mom who let her 11 yo read it without reviewing it first.) I got the feeling from talking to DS that there is a good bit of cursing surrounding attacks, etc. who makes sense to me- if some Dino withan attitude wanted to make me a meal, I'd have some very expressive language describing me feelings on the matter! LostSurprise
I don't remember any sex. Definitely language. Definitely violence and gore. It starts out with a doctor's treatment of a severely maimed man (if you want to gauge the gore level). Generally the length and some of the technical turns many kids that age off, but I think I was open to it at 12 with my non-violence sensitive kids. LibraryLover
Swearing, no sex. My kids read JP at 12/13. I think it's fine.
Desert Strawberry
I would say yes at 12.
Garga
Didn't it have that scene with the kids on the beach chasing the cute little lizard around? And then it ate the kids? Weren't the cute little lizards eating babies in their cribs? Maybe that was the 2nd book? (They were baby dinosaurs, not really cute little lizards.)
