Mixed math review books

Recommended Posts

For the past few years we've used Math Minutes as a quick daily review. I like that it's short, easy, and on mixed topics. It helps my daughter keep things fresh in her mind. Unfortunately, it only goes through an 8th grade (pre-algebra) level. I'd like to continue this next year as we dig further into Algebra and Geometry. Any ideas for a quick spiral daily review math book that is at an algebra 1 and higher level? I will cross-post on the high school board.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just use a series that incorporates it?

Surely there are others than just Saxon that function this way...

We totally could use Saxon, but I would hate switching from one series to another when what we're using now (Foerster Algebra) is working fine. I just want to continue to add in a little daily review to keep up old skills.

Math Mates FAQs:

Can I order Maths Mate materials if I am not a teacher?
• Anyone can order Maths Mate materials for private use with individual students, at home or other institutions.
• The Maths Mate resources are available for purchase online or at any bookshop.
• The sale of teacher resource materials is restricted to schools and other educational institutions.

This program does go higher than 8th grade.

I've considered adding Horizons Math as review for my DD going into 6th grade, but this will add a lot more work and time to her day. We tried this in 4th grade. DD liked Horizons but never finished the text. Math Mates looks to be more comprehensive than Math Minutes. Math Mates seems to have just the right amount of review of basic concepts, but no word problems and there are only 32 pages of review. Hummmm. Math Mates and Singapore Challenging Word Problems might be my ticket for review next year. Decisions, decisions.....

I found this surfing around online:

Sixth-Grade Math Minutes

This is a PDF file of a book with an answer key at the end.

FWIW, the Maths Mate pages are double-sided, for a total of 32 problems for a weekly review (I just glanced at the Blue and Mauve levels that dd used a couple years ago).  Usually, the last one or two problems are challenging/puzzlers.  It does include some word problems.

Math Mates Skill Builders has simple word problems.  Links are to full pdf

Math Mates Skill Builders Blue/Green (405 pages)

Math Mates Skill Builders Mauve/Lime (471 pages)

ETA: can't get it to link correctly using link tool http://www.mrvmath.com/MATH'S%20MATE.pdf

All the skillbuilders are available here as well sorted by topic. Just to clarify for those who haven't used Math Mates. The student is to complete the 2 sided worksheet and then have it scored. If the student scores poorly on a particular topic, then they should use the skillbuilder worksheets as a refresher. The worksheets are coded so you can tell which particular skills are used in each problem and the scoring sheets also indicate the appropriate skillbuilders.
