gingersmom
My cat needs to go on the Atkins diet :001_smile: My vet wants my 3 pound overweight senior citizen cat to switch to a high protein low carb diet. He recommended Evo Innova but I just discovered that they had a recall this past summer so I really don't want to use them. Any other recommendations? AK_Mom4
Our cat eats Blue Wilderness All Natural High Protein cat food. He gets regular Adult Chicken because he doesn't need to lose any weight, but they also make a High Protein Weight Control formula.
Pawz4me
Can you do canned food? It's naturally higher protein, lower carb than kibble. In your shoes I'd look at Nature's Variety, either the frozen raw or canned. Even some of the "grocery store" brands like Friskies and Fancy Feast are very low carb, although you have to read the label of each flavor. They do contain byproducts, though, if you're against those. IMO many of the "grocery store" canned foods are healthier options for cats than most brands (even "premium") of kibble. Unfortunately, as far as brands go -- There just aren't many who haven't been involved in a recall(s). Natura's recall is just the most recent. Pippen
I've been using Evo for years with no problems, even though our food was on the recall list.
Mrs_JWM
Ha! Our cat used "Cat-kins" before we did! She kept going on and on about how great she felt and how the weight was just melting off that we just had to try it! ;) We did canned food - store-brand. Stacia
I have a diabetic cat. He eats Purina DM (which is the diabetic food). So, it's higher in protein, lower in carbs. Costs a fortune, though, & you need to buy it through a vet office.
