shinyhappypeople
For example, one week, all the words end in -er (father, weather, etc.) I have the Natural Speller book, and it's set up like this, but it's more of a reference book. I'd like to find something open and go with a week's worth of spelling words and activities already set up for me. So... does this exist?? Guest
Son 1's private school used Dr. Fry's list and made word family lists each week. Day 1: copy words Day 2: write sentences with the words Day 3: alphabetize words (I think) Day 4: study for test Day 5: test
Peaceful Isle
BJU press uses word families to teach reading and also in their lower elementary spelling books. Example : blow, snow, grow / bat, cat, mat / brave, cave etc....
NoPlaceLikeHome
I would look at Webster's Speller 1908 edition which I think is the king of spellers and groups words by words families and will be the only speller you need. Plus it is free! http://donpotter.net/pdf/websterspellingbookmethod.pdf Here is a host of other free spellers: http://donpotter.net/education_pages/spelling_books.html

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
BJU Spelling, at least the old spellers did. I am not sure how the new spellers are, I have not looked at/used the new ones.

I got it for a $1 at the library. Its really nifty, I love how slim and to the point books were back in the day.
Walking-Iris
Sequential Spelling. You're describing Sequential Spelling. :)
Guest
I forgot about BJU and I'm using 2nd edition right now. The lists are word family patterns but they are mixed like -th, -ch, -sh words. Here is a link to samples. http://www.bjupresshomeschool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_Spelling____559361

Kathie in VA
I'm using Rod and Staff Spelling at this point ... this might be good for you. Although you might want to look into SpellWell, it goes 1st-5th but then you might want to look into Megawords since it starts in 4th.
