Stratford
We need to replace our family room floor and are looking at cork (and a couple of other options as well.) I don't know much about it but have been impressed with what I have read online. Anybody have any real-life experience with cork flooring? Love it, hate it? Any advice? Belacqua
We're considering it, too. When we were on college tours last fall we saw a university library with cork floors, so I asked the reference librarian about it (don't worry; I didn't hold up the tour to do this). Well! I figured she'd probably look at me like I was crazy, but she was so excited to talk about their floor. It was fairly new, and she loved it. She was positively rhapsodic about how much quieter the library was and how it didn't scratch and how easy it was to keep clean. It did look nice, I have to say. So if you put any stock in the flooring opinions of a university librarian, cork might be for you!
Rebecca VA
I'm curious about this, also. Do cork floors hold up well in homes with animals? I'm worried that dog claws could damage them.
Stratford
Thanks for the input, I'll take a librarian's opinion any time....
Renthead Mommy
My bf has had one for about 6 years. They also have a Jack Russel and a Bull Terrier with two extra large 'nephew' dogs that come over often. It has held up well to all that. It is also comfortable to stand on and cook. The only problem with theirs is her husband installed it and something it didn't seal or something right. It makes a squeak as you walk on it. The panels rub together or something and it squeaks. They wish they had had it professionally done, but other than the noise, it makes a great floor.
Stellalarella
My dh just installed cork flooring in someone's home today. He used a pencil to make marks for necessary cuts and he said the pencil would leave an indentation. He thought it might be OK as long as the homeowner wasn't planning to walk on it with high heels...
Mom-ninja.
We have it in the school room. I love it. That said, our dog is not allowed in that room so no idea how it holds up with pet claws. I also do not allow shoes or food in the room. I've moved furniture a few times and I've not noticed any permanent indentations. My dh installed it. It will fade in the sun like wood. Alice
We have it and love it. We have it in this house and had it in our kitchen in our old house.
elfgivas
i loved it when we had it in ottawa for seven years. it was lovely, easy, and gentle on the joints. we had two cats and a dog, and university boarders, and it handled them all :). milovany
Our main community center in town has cork floors. They look great. I'm hoping we'll install them on our new parish nave; we stand for the bulk of our services, and cork sounds ducky for that.
