SJ.
Good question, I have a turkey that has been in our deep freeze since Nov 2011. :lurk5:
SunnyDays
I've wondered the same thing, I found one recently that we bought last year around this time. Not sure how long they stay good, hopefully someone will enlighten us!! :)
Mrs Mungo
Deep freeze? Should be fine. http://www.home-ec101.com/food-safety-and-the-deep-freeze/
Lady Marmalade
I wouldn't hesitate to thaw and cook a turkey that had been in the freezer for THREE years, let alone one. For best quality they say you should cook it within a year of purchase, but that's really just a guidline. Unless it's been in a power shortage and thawed at some point, I would eat it and enjoy it. I'm jealous! I wish I found something like an unknown turkey in my freezer. All I seem to find is little cups of badly freezer burned soup. songsparrow
If it's been frozen all this time (no power outages), I would not be worried about getting ill. But if it's freezer burned, I would toss it. I tried to cook some freezer burned meat once, but it was not worth the effort because it didn't taste good. Denisemomof4
I would if I still ate meat. I probably have.
applethyme
I found a turkey from last year in our freezer and we ate it without a problem. It tased fine.
Tammyla
Does it have a sell-by-use-by date? It might be fine or it might not be and make you sick. When in doubt, I feed the adults and skip the children. Dads can be like the canary in the tunnel...
Reya
As long as it has no freezer burn, it is perfectly tasty. Even with freezer burn, it is safe.
Mergath
Man, I wish I had a freezer big enough for a turkey to hide in for a year! :p And yes, I'd eat it.
annandatje
The turkey I served for 2012 Thanksgiving had been in deep freezer since November 2011. No one had anything but compliments. Usually if the price is low enough, I stock up on a year's worth of turkeys in November.
