Carolyn in Ohio
Week 1, day 3 with dd11 and ds 14 and we are taste testing Hershey's and European chocolates - Thanks SWB! Carolyn

Mom22ns
Wondering why I haven't had dd get started yet . Nothing like chocolate for motivation!:drool5:
PeterPan
Haha, I thought you were gonna so it was so stressful you were DRIVEN to eat chocolate! Well fun for you! Problem for us is that chocolate makes dd tired with the caffeine. (a common reversal in some kids) So if SWB put that in there and has all the kids wanting to eat it that shouldn't, then that's a pain in the patootee for us. Maybe put *white* or *caramels* as alternates.
Carolyn in Ohio
The selection for outlining/summarizing is about Milton Hershey coming up with a new process for making milk chocolate. There are no actual instructions in WWS to EAT chocolate. I thought of eating the chocolate all on my own:)
Dina in Oklahoma
Oh the cleverness of you. Eating chocolate is always a sign of brilliance!
momto2Cs
Oh the cleverness of you. Eating chocolate is always a sign of brilliance! :iagree: So which is better, the Hershey's, or European?
redsquirrel
I was wondering why I just heard my son mumble "I never knew chocolate could be so interesting." Then he started comparing and contrasting Hershey and the guy who vulcanized rubber and Edison. He did this comparison with enthusiasm and !volume! 7th graders crack me up. Carolyn in Ohio
The European was definitely better. Apparently there is a sour and gritty taste to Hershey's that Europeans "find offensive, if not downright inedible." European chocolate is definitely creamier. Try it for yourself :001_smile: Carolyn Edited September 5, 2012 by Carolyn in Ohio typo
Kendall
Where did you find European chocolate? That sounds like a very good idea! We started Week 3 Day 1 today. I wondered if others were using it and if there is a place to discuss student writing, like there is with WWS1.
Annie Laurie
The European was definitely better. :iagree: I think Hershey's chocolate is yucky. We only buy "snooty chocolate" as dh calls it. :001_smile: Great idea to go with your lesson!
Dina in Oklahoma
I best domestic I've found so far, is Chocolove. We purchase it at Whole Foods. The dark chocolate with orange peel is incredible! http://www.chocolove.com/orange_peel.htm Dina :001_smile: (we need a chocolate eating smile!) Create Your Ritual
We just did that lesson today and it reminded my dd11 of the chocolate taste testing we did a few weeks back when a chocolatier friend of mine came to stay. Nothing like a blind taste testing of 10 different kinds of chocolate to get you ready for this assignment! I am just loving the excerpts! Capt_Uhura
Same for beer. I've always hated beer. Then went I went to Prague and Germany, I realized it's just cheep American beer I didn't like!!! I'm sure there are pricier American beer I might like but when you're early 20s, all people have is cheap beer. Luckily, I don't drink beer. now chocolate on the other hand..... I can't wait to get to this lesson! Ha Ha Ha.
