tammyw
Has anyone used these? Have you had good luck with a certain brand? We try to avoid plastic, but had been using BPA free water bottles, and still I worry about using plastic. Plus they just don't "taste" the same as water from a glass bottle. Same with aluminum or stainless steel - the taste just feels "off" to me. I just saw a link to this site, but of course I worry about glass shattering. Would love to hear thoughts from others. http://pureglassbottle.com/

snickelfritz
I have this one. I haven't dropped it on tile, but it has rolled and bumped (I carry it to the gym on a daily basis)and done fine. I feel more comfortable having the silicone jacket. http://www.takeyausa.com/products/glass-water-bottles/classic-glass-water-bottle-22oz.html
TX6
My favorite glass bottles are my Kombucha bottles. I just wash and reuse. We have a rather large collection of Sigg bottles, but I prefer to reuse the kombucha bottles.

We have a rather large collection of Sigg bottles, but I prefer to reuse the kombucha bottles. This reminds me a little of the other day. My dd9 had a class to go to, and somehow we are down to only one reusable water bottle (a plastic one -- the others have somehow gone missing). Since my son and I would have to wait in the car for an hour without a bottle of water, I filled up one of our old spaghetti jars (mason jar) and used that, lol. It was clean, of course, but still had the spaghetti label on it!
Mrs_JWM
We use Mason jars with these lids: http://cuppow.com/ We also punch holes in Cherry Hut jam tops and put straws in them for kids. Everyone loves Cherry Jerry! http://www.cherryhutstore.com/product/42/Pick_Any_Three/

I guess my biggest concern with these over the link in my first post is that if these are dropped, the glass will shatter everywhere. In the first bottle linked, the coating over the glass keeps the glass "inside" and prevents it from shattering all over the place. http://www.amazon.com/Takeya-Classic-Bottle-Silicone-22-Ounce/dp/B003DTLNUG/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1338086272&sr=1-
SonshineLearner
We use Klean Kanteen's... I did notice that Starbuck's Coffee has nice Glass "cups" that are tall and kinda skinny with a nice cover :)
danybug
We have bought all of ours from Whole Foods Market. They are made by Life Factory. We have multiple bottles and the kids and I take them everywhere. They have the rubber made like a netted sleeve over the glass and come in lots of cool colors. There are two sizes. A great purchase! I had a Life factory and loved it! Unfortunately it broke when I dropped it onto my tile floor. I have a Kleen Kanteen now and like it, but I want another glass one. Jpoy85
I have 2 of these: http://www.reuseit.com/store/glass-water-bottle-p-3133.html I like them because you can use them with or without a straw and they hold quit a lot! For $6.95, it was pretty cheap just to try and I ended up loving em! (they are on sale quite a lot)
Socalimom
I use the Starbucks glass bottle. It has a gel-like protective sleeve around it that can remain on if using the dishwater. I bought it on the Starbucks website where some are on sale. I like the nifty handle on it.
amey311
I keep meaning to get the gaskets to make some of these: http://www.creativecarissa.com/2011/04/reduce-reuse-recycle-diy-glass-straw.html Of course, drinking from a metal straw might not be good if you don't like drinking from a metal water bottle, but you could try it. I think I'd make some felted sleeves for the outside to help protect them.
LaxMom
I have a glass Kerplunk tea bottle (for loose tea) and absolutely love it. They also have single wall glass water bottles. I all honesty, though, most people I hang with go around with a quart mason jar for water, which leads me to... We use Mason jars with these lids: http://cuppow.com/ Those are fabulous!! I will be ordering some this morning. Or... Wait... I might be ordering these! Edited May 27, 2012 by MyCrazyHouse
dirty ethel rackham
I would love a glass water bottlen because I prefer the taste of glass. But, I'm a klutz and I know I would break it. Even if glass shards didn't go everywhere, it would render it useless. I have a fantastic insulated metal bottle by Hydroflask that I use most often. tammyw
I just placed an order for bottles from my original post/link. I'll post back after I've received them and had a chance to use. If anyone else is interested, they have a coupon code currently - TRADE20 at checkout to receive 20% off your order. The coupon is valid now through June 5, 2012. Plus it gives free shipping if you order four or more bottles, automatically, so I ordered two small, two large, and it was less than $65, free shipping. Pricey, but hopefully worth it. hsmom23
Is what we bought for my husband for the construction season and it was 6 bottles for $20 I believe. Cheap enough. He hates. Drinking out of plastic and has horrible luck with traditional water jugs leaking anyway, so he decided to change this year. He has also taken to buying the glass iced tea bottles if he has to pick something up on the run, he then washes them, peels off the label and reuses them too!:tongue_smilie: Eta link: http://www.aquasana.com/category.php?category_id=8 Edited May 31, 2012 by hsmom23 Add link
arghmatey
Those Takeyas are nice--hadn't heard of those. We use Life Factory glass bottles. They have silicone sleeves, too. We drop them all the time, and they never break. One exception: my daughter was racing a friend on concrete holding one. She fell, and it catapulted from her hand, hit the concrete, and shattered. First one to break in over a year of abuse. ETA: you can also layer the sleeves on LF bottles for more cushion, and I am knitting extra sleeves for ours, too. Guest newyorker87
There are lots of different custom water bottles out there, but you're right -- most of them are either made out of plastic, stainless steel, or aluminum. The problem with glass is that it can easily shatter. However, as @snickelfritz said, a silicone/rubber case can go a long way in protecting it. This one's got a rubber grip, for example: http://www.motivators.com/Promotional-Custom-RubberGripGlassBottle-60217.html Good luck finding a bottle that works for you!
