lynn
We made the entire year without having to replace her shoes and we just need them for rehearsal and recital, what is the best way to get them clean and fresh looking?
ReneTL
If they are leather, calamine lotion smeared on with a cotton ball works really well. Canvas ones, you can try to spot clean them, but I've never had much luck with that.
delaney
I say just replace them a touch bigger and use them for next year. We are in the same boat since DD LOST her brand new ones with 10 days to go.:glare: I know she will need them next year so I will just get them a size bigger. madlibs
If they are leather, you can use a Mr. Clean magic eraser - works great! If they are canvas, there really is not much hope.I wouldn't worry about replacing them. Look around, most of the girls' shoes probably have spots on them. You won't notice from the audience. My dds have been dancing 8 years and I only buy shoes when they are outgrown. Enjoy recital. Ours was last weekend and it was a blast! Rebel Yell
Leather shoes: Damp washcloth, maybe very slightly soapy. If there are worn spots on the toes, try calamine lotion, foundation make-up, or my trick: acrylic paint! If you are VERY good at mixing colors, give it a try- start with a flesh tone, add a tiny dab of a warm pink. Ballet shoes are not normally as "pinkie-pink" as most people imagine! Dab the paint on with a cotton ball, and wipe to blend. Canvas shoes: Brush them off as best as you can. Try powdered foundation make-up. Be careful with bigger shoes in the next size... make sure you're able to tighten the elastic enough so the toes aren't floppy.
chepyl
Canvass ballet shoes can be handwashed in woolite or in cold on the gentle cycle. Let the air dry. Hand washing is best. Do not put them in the dryer. You can try anything on leather, but scuffs won't clean off.
KungFuPanda
You're supposed to clean them!
mom2myboys
nail polish remover. Try on an inconspicuous part first to test the leather (some brands hold up to this better than others). Dab a bit on a cotton ball and wipe the smudges off. Works great for tap shoes too.
Brenda in FL
Last year I used a damp cloth and very small amounts of Bar Keeper's Friend. This was for leather shoes that had terrible black scuff marks - worked fabulously. I wouldn't recommend new shoes at this stage because they won't be broken in and may affect her performance. chiguirre
Last year I used baby wipes and it worked fine. I haven't cleaned them yet this year, but I guess I better because the recital is next week.
