Atlanta area- Prom Dresses

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me some good places to look for prom dresses in the Atlanta area? Dd is taking a Cotillion class at a Christian school, so we need a dress. Consignment places would be awesome, or at least stores that are reasonable. Places that specialize in more modest dresses would be a huge plus!

Thank you for any recommendations. We are on the south side, but are willing to drive to find something great.

I'll ask some friends on the southside. We're in the northwest side of the city but grew up on the southside. Check with Belles and Beaus in Fayetteville. They've been around since I was in HS 20+ years ago and have a large following. I'll get back to you.

Got some responses:

*Trend Setters Salon in Wedowee, AL. Not too far of a drive. It's a consignment shop, but the poster said they had some gorgeous dresses.

*Try the Junior League nearly new shop on Howell Mill.

*Sounds crazy, but TJ Maxx and Marshalls have prices on that type of dresses that usually beat the consignment stores. And for the last military formal I went to I looked ALL over Savannah (including the mall, which I usually avoid) and finally walked through JC Penny on the way to may car... and BAM! Prom dresses were ridiculously low priced. I've never shopped at Penny's... but I did that day!

I'll send more as I get them.

One more response:

*There's a shop on the square here in Fayetteville. I hear it's nice but have not been myself. I shop at Clothes Less Traveled and sometimes, I've seen long dresses but not sure what they have right now. Their shop is in Peachtree City.

One last tip from my southside friends:

Try Upscale Resale in Newnan

Thank you! We tried Upscale Resale but they didn't have any her size. They told us about The Pink Hangar between Newnan and Peachtree City, but they didn't have any she liked. They told us about Funky Trunk right down the street and she found this dress that she loves!

This Yankee just has to know....what exactly is a Cotillion Class? I mean I know what a Cotillion is, at least in the abstract sense, but am wondering what one learns at a Cotillion Class. Is it like Charm School?

(sincerely wondering..:001_smile:.)

It is like Charm School in a way. She takes it a Christian school in the area. She has classes that cover Christian character and etiquette including formal table setting and dinner rules. She has started learning some ballroom dancing, too. She is assigned an escort(and actually has 2 because there are more boys than girls). In May there will be a formal dinner and dance. She figured it was the closest thing she could get to a prom. The school has university style classes that homeschoolers are allowed to attend, with core academics on MWF and electives on T and/or Th.

Thanks for the explanation-- that sounds like fun! And two escorts-- lucky men indeed! PLEASE be sure to post pictures when you find her perfect dress and she goes off for that fun evening!

Happy Shopping!

Thank you. The picture is her in the dress that we got today, and it's what she's going to wear. I'll repost some pictures when she actually goes, but it won't be until May.
