6packofun
Is there a printer out there that has a lid which will adjust to the thickness of the book from which you're trying to get a copy?? It seems like all the printers available have a flip open lid that doesn't accommodate much more than a single sheet of paper or very thin book. Anything thicker leaves the lid open and lets light in which sort of ruins the copy, kwim? We're ready to invest in another printer but if I have to keep taking my things to the library's REAL copier, I'll buy a much less expensive one! stripe
The Samsung multifunction laser printers allow thick items to be copies. Not sure if someof them aren't being sold as they no longer show on Samsung's website but I found them elsewhere. Although you've got a point about how effective the lid is. Hmm. frugalmama
Mine has a removable lid - but you do get the whole light hitting areas not covered thing. We don't mind it around here. Mine is a HP Deskjet f2210. It also is a bit of an ink hog.
ashfern
We have a Brother that has the hinge so you can do books. What I don't like is that it doesn't like thick paper. Anytime I need to do card stock, I have to use my HP Deskjet instead.
Shellers
Can you leave the lid open while making a copy? On my cheapo Kodak printer I can.
Virg
My Canon MP 980 has the hinge that adjusts for books. I like it a lot :)
athena1277
I have an HP printer/copier. It has the lid like you mention. I copy all the time on it, just leaving the lid up and holding the book in place. The copies are always just fine.
T'smom
I just leave the lid open and cover the back of my copy with a large sheet of white paper. It works for us!
lailasmum
My hp officejet 6500 has fairly big hinges, I've not had any problems with thick books. I wouldn't recommend it for other reasons though.
historically accurate
My Epson Photo has a lid that goes straight up to accomodate fatter books or hinges open for sheets of paper. You do however get some light in there with fat books.
