Denise in Florida
My heart hurts for those kids. I don't condone cheating but the pressure some high schoolers face is soul-killing. They know (because they are told:glare:) that their whole life depends on doing well on this test so that they can get into a good college...get a good job...etc. We seem to have a great deal of trouble with the concept of balance and moderation. They panicked. They made a terrrible decision. They are go to pay a high price for years to come.
TravelingChris
I just worry that there may be potential hardships in the future for homeschoolers to take the tests. After all, dd never attended the schools she went to for tests.
butterflymommy
Man, I want to know what this guy's scores were to be in such demand! What doesn't make sense to me is that SAT tutors can make incredible amounts of money tutoring privileged students in the greater NY area-- sometimes $500+ an hour. Surely he realized he could make more money tutoring... with no legal risk?

They made a terrrible decision. They are go to pay a high price for years to come. I disagree. I think they wanted an easy way out, and decided to pay for someone to do the dirty work for them. I feel no pity at all. There are plenty of colleges that kids can get into without even submitting an SAT score. There's community college. There are lots of options. I feel no pity. They got what they deserved.

I feel absolutely nothing but disdain for such individuals.
RoughCollie
I feel no pity. They got what they deserved. :iagree: These cheaters are victims only of their own lack of integrity.
crazyforlatin
I wonder if their parents knew and gave them the money.
Teachin'Mine
I wonder if their parents knew and gave them the money. I wouldn't be at all surprised. :glare: Guess we can expect closer scrutiny of our homeschooler IDs. :tongue_smilie:
PiCO
I just worry that there may be potential hardships in the future for homeschoolers to take the tests. After all, dd never attended the schools she went to for tests. I think they will be looking for kids who go to school, but take the test at a different school, especially if they take the test at a school 50+ miles away from where they live. I totally agree with this. My daughter is terrible at test-taking. I sent her to a tutoring place for over a year to work on her test-taking skills and specific skills needed for the test. It helped enormously, but it was a HUGE time commitment and a LOT of work. That's different than cheating.
