plain jane
I picked up a couple Asterix books for my kids from garage sales and the kids simply love them. Since I'm ordering from RR I thought I'd slip a few into my order. I'm wondering if they are best read in numerical order or can they read any one they want? Any favorites you want to tell me about? LittleIzumi
Which language? (They lose so much in English!!) You can read them in any order, technically. My favorite was always Asterix & Cleopatra (the German translation).

Just English. :o My kids can only read in one language. :leaving:

LAS in LA
Mild-mannered DS8 talks most about "The Big Fight". :D BTW- new omnibuses are coming out soon. Check amazon.
RainbowSprinkles
I used to love Asterix books when I was a kid. :) They can be read out of order.
flyingiguana
I don't think you'd get the French word play unless you knew French really well. But the people who translated them into English did their best to give the flavor with their own puns and jokes. There are a significant number of people, apparently, who enjoy the English names better than the French ones. They think they're funnier. Matryoshka
Which language? (They lose so much in English!!) You can read them in any order, technically. My favorite was always Asterix & Cleopatra (the German translation). We're doing Ancient Rome, so I thought some of these would be a fun addition. I got a bunch of the videos (in German) - my dd just watched Asterix and Cleopatra a few days ago (and had fun pointing out the gross historical inaccuracies. :tongue_smilie:)
Julie Smith
We're boring here. Just English. :o My kids can only read in one language. :leaving: I must say, I usually HATE animated emoticons, but I do like the one, "Oh The Shame". I was looking forward to my dh reading my kids Asterix in french, but... they have no interest in comic books, graphic novels, ... Oh The Shame. Kareni
If your child studies Latin, be sure to look for the Asterix books in that language. My daughter enjoyed the ones that she read. Here are links to two that I see in print: Asterix Legionarius Asterix Gallus Regards, Kareni
