Noodle bowls with lids? Like in Ponyo?

Recommended Posts

DD is obsessed with the lidded noodle bowls from the movie Ponyo. Does anyone know where I might find some of these? Also, I assume they are eating ramen in those. Is that right or is there another noodle that cooks up quickly? Or is there such a thing as healthy ramen? I only know about the stuff they sell in packages in the store that I cured DH of eating 7 days a week when we met.

Rice noodles are basically rehydrated. So that's a quick option too. If you go to an Asian store, they normally have a lot of noodles.

Do you have a Chinese store near you? Or Korean or Japanese? Mitsuwa Marketplace is great if you have nothing like this near you.

You could try an online store like this

Here's an idea too

http://www.jbox.com usually has covered noodle bowls. They're in with bento supplies. We've ordered from Jbox many times and the shipping is reasonable and quick.

But if you have a Mitsuwa nearby, even better- they have tons of stuff and will surely have a covered noodle bowl. They also carry lots of small covered bowls that work well for leftovers- not large enough to cook ramen in, but large enough to reheat soup or small meals.

Would he settle for a cute bento box instead?

They have them at our grocery store in the Japanese food section. Healthy ramen is ramen where you throw away the flavor packet and make it yourself with actual vegetables and some hot broth. So... not in the bowl.

If she's really into Ponyo, you should get her a putt-putt boat like in the movie! I got some - they're not that expensive and we sailed them around in a little pool. They ran on olive oil. It's sooooo cool. I couldn't find the site I bought ours from, but they're a lot like this one.

My oldest loves that Japanese-style food and has cooked ramen that way based on the movie. We didn't look for the lidded bowls, but rather, put a plate on top of a bowl until it cooked through.

Don't forget the "Ham!" :tongue_smilie:

It's been too long since I've seen Ponyo, but was it something like this:

Microwave ramen bowl

Wendi

Clever, with the plates over the bowls! If I can't find a good price and a healthy noodle, I might do that. I could see serving it regularly if I can find both.

Thanks for the info on the noodles too. I'm sure we have an Asian market, as we're in a military community. Just a matter of finding it. I'll get on that.

Like that but it was pottery or porcelain. DD is into all things lovely so that is probably half her interest in it.

Will look, thanks!

Thanks everyone. I will definitely be investigating an Asian market to ask about noodles. Sadly, we have no Trader Joe's.

I think http://www.marukaiestore.com/p-3462-donabe-size-9-go-diameter28cm.aspx this is what you are looking for. I am getting a few...I too was intrigued by them in Ponyo!

That's definitely the most similar! It's pretty too! I just know dd would be disappointed without a pretty design. I'm thinking another themed movie night has just made itself obvious. Thanks so much!
