texmom777
Hi! I'm looking to download some good, fun, upbeat music for my tween dd. :001_smile: Does anyone have any suggestions? Any genre and/or time period is fine (70's, 80's, today's music, etc). THANK YOU!
MHowell
K really likes MGMT right now, the music videos are pretty trippy. She likes the songs Kids and Electric Feel the best. Her and D dance to them a lot. Then there is Selena Gomez, Berlin, Sugarland, Garth Brooks, the Twilight soundtracks.... That's all that I can think of at the moment. HTH! cloversandlions
Gosh...where to start? (I'm linking to youtube videos for you to assess [though of course, you will probably be familiar with many of them], not necessarily for your dd to see; some are okay for kids to watch, but definitely not all of them!) I think it depends on what kind of music the t(w)een likes already. Both my 12yo and my 10yo like 80s music, but 10yo dd's taste in music is emerging a little faster, and is a lot more diverse, than ds's (who is stuck on We Didn't Start the Fire and Eye of the Tiger). Dd likes Taylor Swift, some Lady Gaga (I censor almost all of LG's songs, but she loves - and no, she's never watched any of LG's videos). She also likes songs like by Timbaland/One Republic, (esp. by Allison Crowe - this song by this singer is one of her absolute favorite songs), by Tim McGraw, by the Black Eyed Peas, by Mercy Me, and...thanks to a friend in our local playgroup, she now knows about Eminem - at least, she knows the song Love the Way You Lie. We had a loooooooonng talk about that song (and the artists singing the song), but I eventually bought the "clean" (it's not that clean, unfortunately) version. That's part of the problem here - I'm reluctant to buy a whole CD (or the comparable download in iTunes) if I'm not familiar with all of the music. I mean, the Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling is a fun song, but I'm not going to play their My Humps in her presence. KWIM? Other (incl. older) songs she and her friends like: Falco's (esp. the 2003 Missterious remix) by Alabama by BahamanWalk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles (and other songs of theirs) The Twilight soundtrack, especially by Muse by Cat Stevens by Club Nouveau by Taylor Hicks by Taio Cruz & Ludacris by Styx by Carl Douglasetc. Also, not a song, but both of my children like to listen to the pianist Yiruma when falling asleep; his River Flows Through You became popular because people likened it to what they thought Edward would have composed for Bella in the Twilight book. Or so I'm told. And, if you or anyone is looking for an upbeat Christian group, we all love Press Play - their songs, like and , are a lot of fun. If you have Pandora, they have a tween station which will also give you some ideas (which will probably be more current - and currently popular - with the tween set). :)

Wheres Toto
I love Nickelback but there is a lot of heavy cursing and sexual content in a lot of their songs. The Glee versions of most songs are pretty clean since they were played on network television. There may still be innuendo but the outright curses won't be there. I actually love the various Glee CD's because it offers a wider variety of music in one shot - multiple eras and genres.

Sasharowan
My ds10 and dd11 love Celtic Thunder right now. They also listen to Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Styx, Jim Croce, Disney soundtracks, and Katy Perry. They have been pulling up some Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra stuff thanks to Celtic Thunder.
