melissel
It's been open for 8 days as of today. It looks fine (still pink), smells fine (like bacon), and is the conventional kind (with the preservatives). The USDA site says 7 days after opening, so we're a day over, and it's been in and out of the fridge a few times. WWYD? Would you use it to flavor your mushroom sauce or not? TIA! k2bdeutmeyer
I probably would :)
Mrs Mungo
Yes, it has plenty of preservatives, it should be fine.
LidiyaDawn
I'm a vegetarian, but my husband isn't and he loves bacon - I don't doubt for a minute that he'd eat that without any hesitation. He eats bits of it raw when he's making it even.

melissel
Thanks everyone! I'm relieved, because it was darn pricey (was a last-minute V-day purchase, so full-price) and I would hate to waste it! It will add a lot to my meal too *yum*. I really just ought to remove all the drawers from my fridge. It's "out of sight, out of mind" in there :glare: I appreciate the input! DarcyB
No, I wouldn't, but then, again, I don't like bacon :tongue_smilie:

kiana
I would smell it first. If it smelt like bacon I'd eat it. :D
Melissa in Australia
bacon is fine as long as it is not getting slimy, or discoloured. we make our own bacon, and I keep it in the fridge(unsliced) for up to a month, no problems. it goes bad faster sliced, as there is more surface area exposed. Shawna in Texas
No, I wouldn't, but then, again, I don't like bacon :tongue_smilie: Can't...comprehend... :tongue_smilie:
RegularMom
I have no thoughts on whether one should eat 8-day-old bacon, but I just have to say that when I first glanced at the title of the thread, I thought it said: "Would you eat this person?" Well... time to refill the coffee mug... :D
DarcyB
Can't...comprehend...:tongue_smilie: Neither can my husband. It sometimes makes him question why he ever chose me as his life-mate LOL

TheCoffeeChick
I was actually wondering how opened bacon lasted 8 whole days? :001_huh: In our house it would have been gone by the 2nd day.

Things get put in the middle drawer of our fridge and go unseen for months, only to try to claw their way out when they finally evolve enough times. The best thing refrigerator manufacturers ever did was make see-through drawers. This thing is from the 70s. There may still be food from the previous owners of the house in there somewhere--I'm not sure :glare:

I can probably find a few other things to blame on that drawer if I tried hard enough :D
