MamaHappy
I'm already thinking about next year (I love planning, lol :)) and I'm thinking my ds will probably spend about 3 hours a day next year on school. I'm just curious about how many hours a day for your 3rd grader? Thanks! :)
Mallory
There was a thread about this not too long ago- http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216100&highlight=hours But my rough guide is more than 1/2 hour per grade, less than an hour per grade. So in between 1.5 hours and 3 hours is good for 3rd grade for us!
Sophia
So in between 1.5 hours and 3 hours is good for 3rd grade for us! This is about right for my current third grader.
Karenciavo
My 3rd grader spends about 5 hours on school, I guess that's on the high end.

Mallory
I just wanted to add that I don't count reading, unless it is phonics that I am actually teaching. Independant reading and read alouds are extra.
mytwomonkeys
3-4 hours (that includes everything except my reading aloud to her at night)....but it could be less. we like to dilly dally a lot and eat, tell jokes, etc. if we both focused more, it would be done sooner. Penelope
It is really hard to say, because I have younger kids that require interruptions and then the third grader gets off track if I'm not right there keeping him on task. Actual seat work is about 2 hours I'd guess (math, Latin, spelling, memory, writing, science pages, grammar), but with read alouds, reading including independent reading for school, discussion, science experiments, I'm sure it comes to more than 4 hours. misscometa
That's about right, it took me 4 hours a day, with no school on Fridays.
love3es
My 3rd grader spends about 3-4 hours per day on school, not including my read-aloud at night and his independent reading at night. So, that makes me feel better... it looks like we're about where everyone else is for this age/grade level.
Momma2Many66
5 hours a day, not counting reading. We also do a lot of flashcard & memory work in all subjects. Math takes 2 hours a day, we are doing several different programs.
JudoMom
Anywhere from 2-4, depending on how much time I've got to spend with him. He has roughly 2 hours of work he can do without me, roughly an hour of work he has to do with me, and roughly an hour of work that we do as a group. OlgaLA
Just over 4 hours of learning time, although with all the breaks it is closer to 6. I don't count reading and outside activities.

....
I'm already thinking about next year (I love planning, lol :)) and I'm thinking my ds will probably spend about 3 hours a day next year on school. I'm just curious about how many hours a day for your 3rd grader? Thanks! :) I think 3 hours is perfect. :001_smile: What were they saying...one hour per day per grade level? We do school pretty much all day until about 2...but I have 4 kids and lots of distractions - plus we go outside and play too. I guess if I added up "actual school work" for the 3rd grader, it would probably be about 2-3 hours.
....
Math takes 2 hours a day, we are doing several different programs. Wow! :svengo: That's a lot of math. We've started doing two programs this year, so math is taking us a lot longer than usual also.
Momling
My 3rd grader does about an hour for math, a half-hour for language arts, a half hour for either Latin or Polish, and a half-hour for history. Plus a little extra for geography/music/handwriting when we squeeze it in. So that's 2.5-3 hrs per day. But then she also takes one or two classes each day (art/science/interdisciplinary...) so that's an extra 2-3 hours of classtime. So... I guess that puts her at 5-6 hrs/day. If we were 100% homeschooling, I'd imagine we'd be around 4 hrs. That feels right to me.

I'm just curious about how many hours a day for your 3rd grader? Thanks! :) 3-5 hours on Sat and Sunday (science and mapwork, too) 1-2 hours M-F, year round, and we make up time if sick or off. He is wiggly, and I work full time.
Embassy
About 6 hours including everything like PE, read alouds, reading, etc. Many of our subjects involve hands-on activities which take more time.
