Janie
My co-op source for bulk wheat berries has dried up. I was paying about $45 for 50 lbs with no shipping. Until I find another co-op within a very reasonable driving distance, I'm going to have to buy white wheat berries and soft wheat berries from some vendor some where. Who do you recommend for reasonable prices? Thanks!
Alison in KY
Someone close by me does a co-op from http://www.somethingbetternaturalfoods.com. Their minimum order is pretty small and I think their prices are better than health food stores. Maybe you could get with a couple others and start using them. kewb
I purchase my wheat berries from pleasant hill grain http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/buy_wheat_whole_grain_red_white_wheat_berries_making_bread_flour.aspx.
BikeBookBread
I buy Wheat Montana berries, but not from them directly. The UPS shipping is out of my league! When we were in Tucson, we just contacted the local distributor listed on the Wheat Montana website. They were more than happy to sell to us directly. We picked up our berries at his warehouse. I can't remember the price, but it was very, very good, and their wheat is considered some of the best in the world for protein content. Laurel
From our local food coop I can get a 25 lb. bag of organic wheat berries for $11. Another producer has certified naturally grown wheat berries for $8 for 25 lb. On top of that price, I pay sales tax (8%) and a shipping and handling charge (10%). Sara R
The LDS church sells wheat at "home storage centers." One is in Richmond, VA, and one is in the DC area.
Blueridge
Hi Janie. Have you tried the little health food store that is across from the DMV in Rocky Mount? The last time I was there, they had bags available. They also place special orders for large items for folks all the time. :)

MeaganS
Our Walmart did too! But we were in Utah and food storage is big there. They also had number 10 cans of all different types of foods and large buckets of oats and stuff. It was awesome.

yslek
Check out Azure Standard. They may have a drop point in your area. You have to get an account with them to even see their prices online, but getting an account does not commit you to buy anything. I had to call them to get my local drop point information. They have some great organic products at good prices. I just checked their site and Organic Hard Red Wheat Berries cost $10.10 for 25 lbs. or $18.40 for 50 lbs. http://www.azurestandard.com/
Kathleen in VA
I paid about $25 for 50 pounds of hard white wheat berries at Yoder's Market in Madison County, Virginia right off of Rt. 29.
Forget-Me-Not
Definitely check out the LDS home storage centers if you have one near you. I don't think you have to be a member of the LDS church to purchase from them. If you have a Winco grocery store near you, check with them as well. They'll special order anything they sell in their bulk bins for you.
fiddledeedee
I think those of us in Utah are lucky in the wheat department. In July I bought two 45 lb buckets of white wheat at Costco for about $13 each. :D
Delighted3
seriously!!!!!????? You're not kidding, right???? Not kidding ;) It was with the flour. I have about 150 lbs of wheat right now, but I had to double check when I saw the bags of wheat berries at WM, because I was amazed to see them. Janie
Perfect! I'll stop by and see. Thanks! I wondered about them.
Janie
I'll have to check the next time at the large WM in the nearest large city. Our WM wouldn't carry those. It's too small, I think, even though it is a Super WalMart. Thanks for the heads up!
FriedClams
I am going to say that I paid around $26-30 for my last 50# bag of Prairie Gold through our co-op. I remember it because last year when wheat went through the roof I paid something like $47-50. It was outrageous.
