Jenn in Mo
I currently have an X-Acto School Pro and it's just not enough anymore. Or perhaps we've worn it down over the last year. Is this a purchase that wears out and needs replaced yearly? What do you use and love?
chalkboard
I finally bought a Boston, wall-mount, hand crank model and it has been just great! Should last quite awhile. There is a very old one of these in the basement of my parent's house, and it still works perfectly. Susan
Mothersweets
We currently have a Sanford Giant that is mounted to the wall and is still working for us (knock on wood). I think I bought it at Staples for around $40. I'd love to find one of those sharpeners we used to have in elementary school - they worked wonderfully. If you want a hand held sharpener, I have found this one from Timberdoodle to be really good - especially for colored pencils. I've had two of them for almost 2 years and they are still going strong. chalkboard, where did you get your Boston?
walkermamaof4
Here's one. http://www.amazon.com/X-Acto-Ranger-Wall-Mount-Heavy-Duty-Sharpener/dp/B00006IEI2 Does anyone have one that seems better before i hit the order button? Our electric one is taped together!
JudoMom
I bought this iPoint a few weeks ago. It sharpens well, and it's a lot quieter than the c.1987 Panasonic we have. I don't know about longevity, though.

I don't know about longevity, though. We have this same one, and just like all the others...it sharpens lopsidedly. Everytime you sharpen you have to pick a bit of the wood off one side at the point just to write...grrrr. I think we'll get the old fashioned hand crank style after we've gotten our money's worth out of the iPoint. I think the only difference between electric sharpeners is how quiet they are or aren't. mom2hunangirls
I ordered this one from Discount School Supply and it came last week. I love it!!! It's what I remember from school.

Really? We haven't had that happen at all (yet ). It sharpens perfectly every time.
Jenn in Mo
Okay, from this, I'm looking at the following. If anyone knows of why I do NOT want to consider them, speak up! :D http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Ranger-Mount-Pencil-Sharpener/dp/B001MAP714/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1281629590&sr=8-28 http://www.amazon.com/X-Acto-Ranger-Wall-Mount-Heavy-Duty-Sharpener/dp/B00006IEI2/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1281629564&sr=8-10 http://www.amazon.com/X-Acto-Table-Wall-Mount-Pencil-Sharpener/dp/B00006IEDY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1281629564&sr=8-4 http://www.amazon.com/Westcott-Sharpener-Antimicrobal-Protection-14768/dp/B001PMJYUE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1281629842&sr=8-
Pink Fairy
I never have luck with the electric ones. I've had 4 or 5 through the years. :-( A while back we switched to these, which are *totally* awesome. The only drawback I've found is that they aren't tied down like an electric sharpener, so I made strict rules about putting it back where it goes when you are done--no exceptions. HollyDay
None of my electric ones work at all. They grind the pencil down and do not form a sharp point. I don't know if I've just worn it out or what. So, I'm using the old tiny square hand sharpeners. They work great!
DawnM
I ordered a Panasonic Auto-stop electric sharpener about 3 years ago. We use it daily and it seems to be fine so far. Sharpens evenly and I love the auto stop feature. Dawn
Guest nikjem
For more than 30 years now I have owned a Boston Vacuum Mount Self Feeding Pencil Sharpener. To this day it continues to give a fine, easy workable point. They are no longer manufactured (please correct me if I'm wrong!) But you may be able to find one on eBay. This looks to be the model that is closest to what you describe. You could also replace the blade. Edited August 16, 2010 by dansamy
