Sue G in PA
Ds9 just doesn't like the physical aspect of writing out his narrations. He loves, however, to type it on the computer. He does handwriting practice each day, writes for spelling and can often be found writing a story in a little notebook I gave him. It's not like he doesn't hand write anything. I'm cool with it, b/c his pages actually end up looking really nice, but was just wondering what you all thought.
Kathy in MD
for note taking, I thinks it's great. He's developing another neccessary skill.
Hoggirl
My ds much prefers to type. Some work is still done in cursive long hand as are ALL thank you notes! However, typing is MUCH more efficient, and this was even more true when he started doing writing assignments where corrections/editing were required. I want to keep my ds writing "some" since all those essay questions on the SAT, etc. have to be written out, but, I let him type lots of things. Just my $0.02 Cynthia
Marie in Oh
in fact, better. He will do far more typing than writing in long hand in his life.
Narrow Gate Academy
I'd definitely let him type his narrations. You'll most likely get much better content and more details in the narrations that way. I actually write DD8's narrations for this reason, but I am looking forward to letting her type her own by next fall hopefully. We do dictation for daily handwriting practice, and she also writes some stories for fun sometimes.
Teresa in OR
It sounds like he does plenty of writing by hand, so I think it's great too!
Jenny in Atl
I have tried everything with my dd 12 to improve her handwriting, to no avail. I have given up. So I let her type most of her writing. She still writes out in work bks, outlines, rough drafts, etc. But, all else is on the computer so I can read it. :p
Amy from WT
Oh my goodness, yes! Think of what the goals are when you're having him do his narrations...you want him to practice putting words together well (writing, in other words), and you want him to rehearse information he's learned. Hmmm, I don't hear anything about the mechanics of handwriting in there! Yes, you're absolutely right - you've got him practicing the mechanics of writing at other times during the day. So by all means, let him type away!
Chris in VA
Wish mine could type! He's trying to learn now, at 18. Go for it.
Krista in LA
That's how we do it too. I found that once I started letting him type them that they were much better. When he had to handwrite narrations, they were as short as possible.
Audrey
I would just let him type. For some the thought-flow goes better and the quality of the writing is much improved.
