m0mmaBuck
What does it mean when someone refers to their child as a "rising x-grader?" Thanks.
Mrs Mungo
It's another way of saying "he/she will be in X grade next year."
AngieC
If the student were in public school, it would be the grade the student would be entering in the fall. The same goes for homeschoolers whom assign a grade to their child.
m0mmaBuck
Ah, OK. That makes sense. Thanks!
fivetails
I'd actually never heard the expression before coming to this board.
1bassoon
I'd never heard it until we moved to the South! Could it be a regional thing?
AngieC
I'm in the midwest and people use it here!
Ellie
I'd actually never heard the expression before coming to this board. It was used when I was in school, although not until high school.
NanceXToo
I'd actually never heard the expression before coming to this board. Me either. I actually wondered what it meant, too, but never asked. I did figure it either meant that, or meant that they were more at that grade level than the one they are actually doing.
angela in ohio
It's an easy way to describe grade level over the summer. Otherwise, you have to ask if they mean the grade they were in or the grade they will be in.
KristenS
We see it all the time on enrollment forms for summer programs ... otherwise parents wonder whether they should put the grade just completed (which is what some places want) or the new grade they'll be entering (which is what other places want).
