bettyandbob
if so, what kind of paint do you use. My son is building models of fortified walls (medieval castles research). Rather than trying to buy hundreds of black or grey legos, he's going to build with multi colored bricks, but wants to paint when done. Chris in VA
Sometimes you can have success with tempra mixed with liquid dish soap to help it stick, but it flakes off and makes a horrible mess later. I'll be interested in seeing what others say.
athena1277
I've never tried it, but what about the spray paint that is made for plastics? Like you would use to paint plastic outdoor kid slides and playsets.
Tap
Ds uses the spray paint designed for plastics to base coat his miniatures, that he then paints by hand. It holds well and gives a nice even coat. I buy it at Fred Meyer for about $5 a can.
dragons in the flower bed
There's a lot of information here http://www.minifigcustomizationnetwork.com/ on what will stick to Lego and what will not. Try paint that's intended for plastic surfaces.

asta
They're plastic, so you need to prep the surface first (just like painting linoleum). You can do that by sanding, by putting on a primer, or, I would imagine, using a bit of acetone. After that, I would imagine any decent spray paint (like rustoleum) would work fine. Just do some test bricks. BTW, acetone is what you use to "glue" bricks together. Once they're glued, though, they're never coming apart. a
