ereks mom
Dh has asked for a white noise machine for Christmas -- you know, one of those things that plays nature sounds such as waves on the beach (or forest or babbling brook), etc. and helps you go to sleep if the room is too quiet or if you want to mask other noises. Of course, I want one that is well-made and has realisitic sounds, but I don't want to pay an exhorbitant price for it. :D
athena1277
This is the one we use. I can't sleep without it! It also works good to help drown out noise so ds can nap. http://www.amazon.com/HoMedics-Sound-SPA-Relaxation-Machine/dp/B0009Y2E42/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1259682394&sr=8-
Tammyla
Target has a big selection to choose from that you can try before you buy. They're cd's and come in a bunch of choices, the one at our Target is located near the candles and electronic section in a big play machine. grace'smom
We have a conair that we got in the 90's and I can't use anything else. I tried homedics and it just wasn't the same. My daughter has my conair b/c that's all she use to sleep, so now I pipe the sound into my room with a baby monitor so we can both use it. kewb
We just turn our Oreck Air Purifier on high. It makes a pleasing hum that drowns out dh's snoring and cleans the air.

mirth
The ones we use are mechanical (round and have little sliding louvers), and have taken quite a bit of abuse in our house. http://www.marpac.com/
