  1. Love this analogy! So the trick may be to find out 'what floats his boat'!
  2. If he is not self motivated, sometimes employers can sense this lack of enthusiasm and will not consider him as a valuable job candidate. Is there any type of work that he is interested in? If he found something he is interested in, he may be motivated to work as a volunteer and work his way up, or he may show enough enthusiasm to be hired.
  3. Agreeing with this.... get the the word out to anyone you know, family and friends to see if they know of any openings and to have them keep their ears and eyes open for you. This type of networking is the number one way to get a job whether you are a teenager or not. Also, volunteer positions often can turn into permanent positions.
  4. If it helps any, I have met and taken a class from the writer/creator of RightStart and I think you would like her and her philosophy also. She wants kids to enjoy and love math... it makes her sad to hear that some kids dread math.
  5. DD does one lesson a day on the computer. She does not use the book. She has a pad of graph paper if she needs to write down any problems.
  6. Congratulations! Trying not to be jealous... :D
  7. How about a nice Bed and Breakfast? http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/
  8. Congratulations! Wow, under $200, that is fantastic. I hope you have a wonderful year!
  9. My 10yo dd loves the Carmen Sandiego games. There have been times when she will come up with some fact and I will ask where she learned that and she says on the Carmen Sandiego game!
