Jann in TX
Our Worship Pastor's wife tested positive for H1N1 today. She is 7mo pregnant, has a history of asthma and has scoliosis that has gotten BAD during this pregnancy. She is a 'future homeschooler' with 2 other young children (1 and 3) who tested positive for Strep today too! I'm almost positive this young family does not have health insurance. Our church is only 5 weeks old!-- Please pray for protection and healing... Jann

Tree House Academy
Oh goodness! :( I hope that she is taking Tamiflu. While I generally don't tend to recommend it to people, in this situation, the benefits will far outweigh any possible risks. Praying for her! yslek
Oh no! Praying here, too. Hopefully she can be treated & recover quickly. I don't know that she would be given Tamiflu, though. From the manufacturer's website (http://www.tamiflu.com/sideeffects.aspx): "TAMIFLU is normally not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing, as the effects on the unborn child or nursing infant are unknown. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding while taking TAMIFLU, talk to your doctor before taking TAMIFLU."
amy g.
I took Tamiflu in this pregnancy. My doctor said that we may not know the effects of the Tamiflu, but the damage a high fever can do to a fetus is well-documented. She said that the benefits greatly outweighed the risks. newbie
I said prayers for her and her babies. If she can keep down garlic, a clove a day is good. Also, a netipot, to keep down mucous. And for the kiddos, marshmallows and lollipos to help throat. Poor thing.:grouphug::grouphug:

cillakat
Oh no! Praying here, too. Hopefully she can be treated & recover quickly. I don't know that she would be given Tamiflu, though. Yes, she will absolutely be given Tamiflu. Pregnant women make up 1% of our population yet 5% of the deaths from novel H1N1 are pregnant women. Pregnant women are among the top tier of persons eligible for tamiflu therapy. In fact, it's so serious that pregnant women, per the CDC, WHO and ACOG are supposed to immediately call physicians if they *start* having flu symptoms. Perception of severity is irrelevant.....any flu symptoms warrant a call to the doc if pregnant. Even feeling relatively fine and lacking serious symptoms, pregnant women have died suddenly from H1N1. Having said that, the majority of pregnant women will recover fairly uneventfully. Please encourage her to take optimal amounts of vitamin D. The AAP is recommending that all hcp's test and treat vitamin D deficiency in pregnant patients. It's critical for normal brain fuction in baby.....and critical for mom's health in so many ways. Praying... K
