5knights3maidens
How about a nursing home?
Caitilin
Your local zoo? Humane society or other animal shelter? The local food pantry, or a place which serves meals to the poor?
Anne in CA
Here in Portland the Zoo is a great place for parents and kids to volunteer together. A woman I know from church does this with her two daughters in the summer.
hornblower
Our local animal shelter welcomes "dog walkers" or "cat socializers". Dd & I do a fair bit of volunteering together for animal rescue - currently mostly with fostering rats, but she's also knitting for a fundraiser for a cat shelter... lynn
DS and I volunteer to do the Helpline fund raiser each year which is wrapping presents in the mall during the holidays. I think I would like to volunteer Habitat for Humanity, food bank or a soup kitchen. Depends really on what kind of volunteering you are looking for. United way usually need people to help sort through and put out donations.
TwinMominTX
We enjoyed doing Meals on Wheels.
BamaTanya
Some churches partnered with some local bakeries to offer day-old-bread to the elderly. As soon as I heard about it last week, I thought, "Hey, there's something I can do WITH my dc!"
gingersmom
You can volunteer to help organize or work the day off with groups running walks/runs (American heart association, diabetes, etc).
