s/o Will there be a revolution?

Recommended Posts

Answering your post backwards:

Because Obama has made it about race.

Proof about how he treats people? You apparently have not been paying attention to their antics.

He didn't grow up as a "black man in America". He grew up as a biracial kid in Hawaii...where the more mixed you are, the "cooler" you are. I believe it was here or MDC that someone from Hawaii discussed this.

We are living today, not 100yrs ago. If you want to make progress for today, let's deal with TODAY's issues, not issues from 1920. That is why I'm not addressing that part of your post. We are discussing ONE man and HIS issues. Not the history there of.

Sad that you can't get the point of someone's experience. Read it a few more times with a more open mind, not one centered on "black and white" and you might get it ;)

On another topic...How DARE you! How flipping DARE YOU! say *if* I'm of mixed heritage! At least I'm acknowledging BOTH sides of Obama's heritage, but you DARE to question mine?! That simply takes the cake! And YES! I do mark in my ethinicities on the forms...and every year the school district sends me back a "corrected" form that eliminates all that I've marked, except "caucasian". In fact, if I had been born in Virginia, my birth cert would have read "coloured". The only options there were "coloured" and "white".

She comes from a different set of circumstances and different background. Her view of race is different.

Thank you! And yes, my view is based on my background. It's not isolated to mid-America. There is so much more.

Thank you. I never heard you had to pass a test, or learn some secret ability to have an opinion.

I think what Audrey is saying (and she can correct me if I'm off), is that everyone has and opinion and you can take it or leave it ;) We're entitled, but not everyone is going to agree.

I don't like where this country is going.

I'm sure a lot of people agree with you on that. Equally, I'm sure a lot of people do indeed LIKE where the country is going.

A couple of years ago, perhaps those numbers would be reversed. It goes in cycles. Is it so bad that one side is going to take up arms and revolt, though? That's the real question. And I think the answer is 'no.' I don't think the circumstances are in any way comparable to what the colonists faced. They had no ability to express their voices in votes. Obviously, the American people today do. Whether or not your vote was the winning one is largely irrelevant. It all comes and goes in cycles anyway, and your turn will come around again.

Personally, though... I dream of the day that the glorious workers revolution will release us all from the chains of capitalism. :D

Oh my goodness, did this thread get off topic!!! A.D. do you even homeschool? You have very few posts and most of them are political.

For those of you that are fighting angry & ready to secede over the perceived socialistic bent this country has taken , I am re-posting the question I posted a few pages back:

Back to the OP, however, I think the idea of Revolution is very easy to get all worked up about in theory, but is insane when you start thinking about actual Revolution in our country. Seriously, are people to the point of war with other citizens over losing an election? Are people ready to pick up guns and shoot at other Americans over the Government owning General Motors? Are people ready to lose everything .... including their husbands, children, and family members who may fight on either side?

Also, if you were to wish for secession (as someone alluded to), what is your plan to accomplish that? Will you all move to Alaska, which seems to be on a Sovereignty kick, or some other state?

I don't see the good of an "exodus" to certain states (if I moved back to SC, it would be because of family). It just makes people easier targets. I believe we need to do an overhaul of our federal government and put things back into the hands of the people (sorry, but I am to the point that I truly do believe that my vote means squat in this country...the big dogs make the decisions and they make them to benefit themselves and only themselves).

Heather

First, not everyone sees this as the result of a single election, rather the direction the government has been heading for quite some time.

Second, no one, that I'm aware of, is stockpiling weapons just yet. People are starting to get edgy and uncomfortable at what they see as the wearing away of their rights.

Finally, push come to shove, yes, I could see standing and fighting for what I believe is right. The question is, at what point will it become too much?

I think if people were REALLY involved, much of this talk of revolution, secession, whatever would really be irrelevant. Maybe not so much on this board, but as a society we are sadly uninvolved in our government. If I had a dollar for every person who complains about the government, but didn't vote, I'd be rich. 56% of registered voters turned out in this last election? Seriously? Maybe something needs to be done about that statistic before we start talking revolution. Those are just the people who are registered to vote, not even everyone who is eligible to vote and just didn't even make the effort to go register. THAT makes me insane.

I would hope so.:D

I agree. If it is socialism that we're headed for...and it looks, quacks, and walks just like that duck...then I would hope there were enough people with the strength and will to stand against it. There are things that are worth fighting for, and standing against socialism is one of them!!

It isn't all about Barak or Clinton.... or about Bush.... (not party oriented at all)... but about the lack of restraint to honor the Constitution and run a limited gov't that works for the people.

:iagree::iagree::iagree:

Both parties, recently, have been against the idea of limited government. They want power, and more of it. At some point, there will be a tipping point when the people will say NO MORE, and return the federal government to it's job (which is clearly limited and defined in the Constitution). This may be done in the ballot box by finally electing small-government candidates, or it may (sadly) be done in a less peaceful manner. I hope it's the former.

I have tried really, REALLY hard to ignore this thread. LOL

I think the idea of a revolution is closer than 10-15 years away. The public at large is restless, bitter, and anxious. Now, what that revolution actually looks like, is anyone's guess. I don't imagine folks will take up arms and storm Washington (Americans have lost their will for physical fighting), but I do think there will be a shakeup of massive proportions coming. Washington has lost sight of who their employers are: The People. They work for US, we don't work for THEM.

I am generally a conservative Republican, but the more red becomes purple, the more I feel pushed toward a libertarian POV. This country NEEDS differing POVs.

This is really well said!! I don't care who is running in the future or under which party, I will vote for the one that wants smaller, limited government.

I see the revolution more resembling the civil right movement, peaceful demonstrations. I don't think this will happen until people on both sides of the line come together and listen and think. The same things I don't like about Obama is what most liberal didn't like about Bush. Both Bush and Obama have helped erode our rights. When people stop arguing and start seeing both parties for what they are, then the revolution will begin!

Maybe, something like a Tea Party? I think the movement has already begun.;)

Chains of capitalism? It is called QUIT YOUR JOB & GET ANOTHER. Chains of socialism... do what the government says & eat your brown mealy bread.

THINK about this... do you really WANT them to vote if they care so little... I mean how "informed" do you think they will be? If they dont' care... FINE with me... their votes would make things a big fat mess. We would have some Taco commercial Pooch or American Idol finalist for President. Scary!;)

I can't believe the right-wing loses one election, and is so unhinged that they begin red-bating, talking about violent revolution, succession, and other unpatriotic and un-American acts. Its really unseemly, shameful, and immature.

I think this was building up way before the election. I think the turning point may have been TARP, when many Americans started opening their eyes to government power plays, which happened during Bush.

LOL! Oh Bill! Is is any less mature to threaten to move out of the country when a president gets elected? This has been happening for a few generations now. I think most of us concerned with the state of our country can recognize that.

:iagree: I wasn't thrilled with the outcome of the election, but gave myself over to hoping it would turn out well. It's the extreme choices that are being made right now that are making me uncomfortable, and others as well, not whether a right-wing or left-wing person is making said choices. I'd dare say (actually I'm pretty certain) if an election took place and it became very right-wing slanted and welfare was thrown out as well as abortion being outlawed there'd be some upset people ready to fight back.

I think it was building with the Patriot Act. I think the more Americans learned what was in that the more they became concerned about their freedoms. I know I did.

Spycar: the more you talk to conservatives the more you will realize that they disagreed with a lot of what President Bush did. He proved himself not to be for small, unintrusive government. His second term was a huge disappointment for many of his supporters.

I have found in my talks to those with different political views than I have (my homeschool group is VERY liberal) that we have more in common the more we talk. The media and politicians keep up the separation between our two points of view. If we weren't fighting and seeing each other as the "bad" guy, we may realize that the media and politicians are the real bad guys.
