  1. This reminds me of what I do that is weird that my poor kids inherited... I eat the chocolate off the candy bar on the outside then I eat the middle. My ex used to hate that I did it.:tongue_smilie:
  2. My kids do this.. Does that mean they are weird? Is it hereditary?:glare:
  3. Niceeeeee! Well I am single and not pregnant or if so it is definitely immaculate conception. Oh wait I have already had the "first pregnancy" stage almost 14 years ago. You are in Ohio now? That is still not that far away.
  4. I answered all that posted here. Hopefully everyone received their pm and if not please don't assume that I didn't send you one. I would love it if you didn't receive a message from me that you just pm me directly. I look forward to hearing back from at least one person, crossing fingers, lol.
  5. From my reading up on the subject, I found that this is started in grade 7-8. I used to get the ps books along with the ones I purchase so that I could make sure I was covering what was being covered in regards to english and arithmetic. Once my son reach 7th they no longer were able or willing to give me those books. The language books along with the reading curriculum he has been learning does have some critical thinking based upon stories he reads or passages but nothing as in depth as they required in the test I was looking over.
  6. I did look at the WTM book. What I came across said that they won't recommend a book but they do as fhjmom suggested and use it throughout every subject. I understand the concept. Instead of looking at a problem and just finding out the answer they want the way to the problem. Why does this work? Honestly I don't remember learning anything like that in school. Then again when I was in school they told you to do a multiplication problem such as 452 times 62 exactly as it is written. In ps the kids I used to babysit were required to multiply 400 times one, then 50 times 60, and finally 2 times 2. Once they added that together they were able to get their answer. Why do they require that now I just don't get. So much work.:tongue_smilie:
  7. This is great!!! I looked at some of the exercises they have in the books and this looks exactly like what they are asking him to know. Thank you so much!
  8. I am not sure exactly. This is new to me. I didn't even know this was taught at such a level. The few people I have talked to have been surprised as well. I thought this was more a college class but hey what do I know, lol.
  9. Ohhhhhh!!! I thought it was a diet package where you had to buy their food and pay to be a part of it. I will definitely look into the book at the library. Thank you so much!:)
  10. No, I haven't done that. I am not familiar with any message boards for NY. I am sure there are some but am unfamiliar with them.
  11. I'm close to Syracuse. Yes, it is hard especially if you don't have friends who home school. I am part of a home school group with my church but I live 40 minutes from my church and most of the people who attend so it isn't easy to get together.
  12. Wendy... actually I have but it was probably 6 years ago when I started on this message board. I will have to pull it out and read it again. Thank you for the advice.
  13. I think that basically says it all. I feel for all you ladies and would love the chance to get to know you. I do miss being able to get together with a friend when I had someone here who could stay with the kids. Now they have all moved on to someone who has the time to get out of the house that I just don't seem to have.:grouphug:
  14. I went to look over the testing for next year for my son and noticed that most of the reading is critical thinking. Yet, I looked at my new books for next year and nothing involves critical thinking. I come to you, the Hive, and ask you what I can use to teach my ninth grader this concept. I couldn't believe how much thought even I had to put into the few questions that I read on the test. Thank you ahead of time for all your input.:)
  15. I can totally relate to the isolation. It is funny with my job I am anything but isolated but no one there understand why I do what I do or even live the way I do. I remember growing up and having one really good friend and I hear people say that they have one such friend. At times I wonder where or how it is I missed out on that. Time and life helped to pull me apart from my high school best friend. I would love the chance to have a real true blue friend. Is that too much to hope for? :grouphug:
  16. I have been reading a few of the posts over this past week and I have noticed a trend. There seem to be a few women who like myself seem to desire to make friends from the Hive. As a single, homeschooling, working mother all my time is taken up with my kids or working all weekend long as much as I can. Therefore, my chance to get out and make friends is next to impossible. Yes, I go to church but for some reason I haven't made close friends even doing that. I think it would be wonderful for those that would enjoy the chance to make friends, become e-pals, or whatever to have that chance to do so with like minded women. Maybe I am the only one who has this desire but I figure it wouldn't hurt to post and find out. I for one know I would enjoy having someone to just share the ups and downs of the day at times or be able to ask advice of things you don't want posted in an open message board. Thanks for taking the time to read.:)
  17. No way! People have other people on ignore in a message board? Say it isn't so.. Seriously?
