  1. We've happily used these books since Kindergarten and are now into Book 3. The workbook was the only thing we purchased for Books 1-3. However, you may want to consider the brand new online version of Wordly Wise. We are having so much fun with it and I see my daughter's progress and results via my parent account. A side benefit with this online version is that you can try level 4 and jump back to Level 3 or up to Level 5 no problem if you need to. It's on a big discount right now at Homeschool Buyer's Coop too! (I plan to blog about it soon.)
  2. We only have gold/silver for our Prismacolors. A quick google only shows gold/silver too. The Prang markers come in other colors though. We also have the Prang brush metallic markers, but ours have run out of ink it looks like. The regular metallic markers have held up better.
  3. I found some suitable metallic felt markers at a craft store as well as Staples. We've tried Prang, some other brand (can't remember), but our favorite is Prismacolor metallics in fine and broad tips.
  4. I purchased this through HSBC a few days ago and my daughter is currently working on it at this moment (and has been the past few days) and loving it. I plan to use Dreambox as a fun supplement. I have my desktop setup and have shared my daughter's screen so I can keep an eye on what she's doing on my own computer desktop screen.
  5. We have three currently, but I plan to get them all, especially after reading these threads! We've got - Africa, USA, and Europe. Looks like I should also pull out Ticket to Ride for my daughter soon. I know I got the iPad app for that as well, we'll try that on our trip next week.
  6. We love it as well! We just learned about Georgia O'Keefe last night. It's been so simple to learn about all the masters, a new art technique or two, and a project at the end. I then load up our computer screensaver with paintings by the artist. I have been on a super long break, but cheers for Homeschool Buyers coop for offering a 3 year MTM subscription for 45% off, so be sure to get that deal.
  7. Wow, this is a TOTALLY AWESOME find, thanks! Now to get the Kindle or hardcover (or gasp, both)...
  8. Here's the correct link for Seterra, and I agree, it rocks. :) http://www.seterra.net/ People also use the geography links on this site: http://sheppardsoftware.com/ As for Carmen Sandiego, I just purchased the entire series (40 episodes) on DVD for just $9.99 on Amazon.
  9. Here's a link, I'm debating purchasing it as well, so I'm all :bigear:. https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/human-body-detectives/?c=1
  10. Yep, I look at the $20k tuitions for a private school around here and think that the few thousand I do spend on books is much easier to swallow. I have a hard time justifying a new pair of shoes but won't bat an eye at books, books, and more books!
  11. A very good friend of mine has a business selling organic snack bags. Her daughter (who is the same age as my daughter) was allergic to plastics, so she started making them a few years back. Here's her website if you want pricing ideas: http://ecoditty.com/ Looks like her snack ones sell for $9.99, although keep in mind they are all organic fabrics.
  12. Aw, thanks! I've been hitting up the WTM boards often for the past few days. So excited to get back in the swing of things.
  13. Rubbing alcohol will take it off, as others have suggested. I sometimes purposely use permanent marker on my whiteboard so things don't accidentally rub off, knowing I can take it off later.
  14. Thanks PlumCrazy for that detailed summary of links on Science Fusion! My first visit back to this board in a long time and I'm already lusting after a new curriculum, doh! Watching that 27 minute video now. :)
  15. Right now my daughter is reading simultaneously The Hobbit, Bridge to Terabithia, and Harry Potter Book 5. She just finished Abel's Island and told me all about it last night. I don't have a scheduled list prepared for this year, we are just winging it, as she has been doing awesome at just picking up books and reading them on her own.
  16. Yep, his book impacted me so much that I dedicated our reading room to him. :)
  17. Thanks Kat for letting me know about this thread! I got a message from my web host provider a few days ago saying they had some technical issues. I'm hoping it will be up running reliably very soon. Satori is cranking out little stories on the computer every single day. She just sent out one penpal letter this week, we will have to work on that to send out more! :) The weather is turning nice so we've been doing lots of bike riding and enjoying the outdoors...
  18. Although I go by that name, Satori is really my daughter - she just turned 7 in November. We've had a bit of a homeschooling break for quite awhile, even pondered public school, but we're finally getting back into the swing of things. In the meantime, she's been reading and writing a lot, so much so that we launched her own personal writing blog - Satori's Stories! She would love to have some people read her first story and get some feedback. (Remember, she's just a little girl, so be constructive, but kind...) Myself, as a homeschool teacher, would love a great writing curriculum tailored to her interest!
  19. My daughter surprised me the other day by cranking out a story about her dog, all typed out, saved, and printed. She begged me to start her own blog called Satori's Stories, so I thought it was time. I cut and pasted from Word, and posted it in her blog. My husband corrected a few misspellings in Chapter 1, but everything after chapter 1 is all her own grammar, spelling, and writing. I did not even know she knew how to do paragraphs yet, nor that she knew what :, ..., - marks even meant. Needless to say I was surprised. Here's the new blog - http://satorisstories.com/ It's a long story, otherwise I would try to copy and paste it here, but I lose all the formatting.
  20. I would also suggest Growing with Grammar, we love it. We're also using Winning with Writing. We just started using Math Mammoth, we go back and forth on it depending on how busy we are.
  21. Hopeless mom gamer here. Meant to say mmo... But it got spell corrected. Three months ago I mentioned I was going to try Rift. This is one of the few posts I've made here since then. I'm completely hooked.
  22. Hi everyone! Yes, I admit, I do take breaks this time of year. I'm so sorry I should at least update my blog... I throw myself 110% into whatever I do, but soon I'll be back to blogging probably next month.
  23. Satori wants to make a blog, we'll have to revisit her typing skills again first though! I'll let you know. Did you get her last letter?
  24. We loved ETC as well. We didn't do the half books though except for Book 4. I did try out the MCP Phonics books, but neither my daughter or myself liked them at all. I didn't think they did as good of a job teaching phonics as ETC.
  25. I use Homeschool Skedtrack, I love that it is online and so flexible. I looked at Scholaric, but at the time it was too simple for my needs. I'll check back next year to see if it has progressed to my liking. Or I might design my own (I'm a web programmer).
