  1. My dd is turning 5 late fall 2009, so we're taking it to the next level. Math-U-See - finish primer, start alpha Handwriting Without Tears - improve existing handwriting skills and do lowercase Reading - combo of Leapfrog DVDs, Phonics Pathways, Reading Eggs and starter books (she can do CVC words and spell pretty well) History - she loves stories so after we finish Prehistory this summer, we'll start in with Ancient this fall. We have our own thing going on that encompasses science, geography, etc... Five in a Row - do a rowing here and there to expose to several subjects in a fun way Tons of reading Tons of fun activities/art/crafts!
  2. Thanks! Now maybe I can free up some space on my DVR, I have 50 MSB episodes saved, lol.
  3. I bought all my timelines through Learning Through History website, the Pandia Press one that includes "prehistory" going back to 2 million BCE. We got the one that is blank except for the dates where we fill in our own stickers as we learn. I also got a pre-filled in Ancient Civilization timeline for visual reference when we get to that time period. (We're just starting out and going over prehistory yet.) http://www.learningthroughhistory.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=H&Product_Code=HT-02 I also got a blank one that we'll use to cover earth prehistory going back half a billion years. We homemade one for universe history going back 15 billion years out of calculator paper.
  4. I spoke up for the first time here on the other thread someone listed, but we've been having a blast with prehistory! I don't know how old your little ones are, but mine is just 4.5, so I made our own curriculum for ages young children. http://satorismiles.com/history-curriculum/ We just started this month and haven't even gotten to dinosaurs yet, but started with the Big Bang, and are going through all of life's evolutions, starting with Precambrian. The The Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History covers lots of prehistory. Some cool neat ideas? Check out our blog for fun activities we've done, I've taken photos and/or videos almost every day.
  5. When my daughter is older, we plan to use Joy Hakim's books A History of US as well.
  6. I got the 12 fossils today from my small mountain town of Nederland, CO at a rock/fossil shop called Nature's Own. I would imagine any rock shop would offer a set like this though! :) http://www.naturesown.com/nederland.htm It's been a huge hit. My young 4.5 year old daughter has been carrying her fossils around all day and begs me to read more about them. She then narrates what she's learned constantly.
  7. Great thread and discussion! We're just starting, but we're doing: Five in a Row SoTW/Usborne Internet-Linked Wold History (you can see our history curriculum on my blog) Math-U-See Handwriting Without Tears Looking forward to checking other stuff out as well as we get towards the kindergarten/grade 1 age.
  8. I think that's the same one I linked to, except the links are different. They both are from Pandia Press and use the same images anyway. :)
  9. Based on another timeline thread I read today, I ended up purchasing this one just an hour ago: http://www.learningthroughhistory.com/Store/CategoryTimelines.html In particular this one from Prehistory to Present, along with some stickers to put on it: http://www.learningthroughhistory.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=H&Product_Code=HT-02 I couldn't find that Yahoo group, is there a link to the homepage? Never mind, found it: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hannah_hs_helps/
  10. I love it, I think I'm coming upon two years of enjoying it. I just discovered a month ago they provide lyrics as well!
  11. We are going through this right now! Last week we started with the big bang, 15 billion years ago or so, and this was with my 4 yo and she's been loving it! We've moved on to archaeology/paleontology/fossils. Next week we'll explore evolution and very early life. It will be a few more months (at our exploratory pace) when we even get to early humans, hominids and how homo sapiens evolved. I have a curriculum all planned out for this prehistory part, complete with picture book go-alongs, dvd/movies, activities and more. Hopefully it will help you! http://satorismiles.com/history-curriculum/lesson-one/'>http://satorismiles.com/history-curriculum/lesson-one/'>http://satorismiles.com/history-curriculum/lesson-one/'>http://satorismiles.com/history-curriculum/lesson-one/ Check out our recent blog posts as we do activities demonstrating sediment, archaeology, paleontolgy, fossils and more... http://satorismiles.com/ I've found so many great pre-history books, I do have to update my "lesson plan" and add those yet.
