  1. Aren't surgeries permanent? Are there some that aren't?
  2. I didn't mean to cut it, I thought I'd copied all of it. If you want to avoid situations like that, maybe you should do the research yourself (it's pretty easy, there's a lot of it) instead of asking questions about "what scientists think this?" when many do.. Plus adding the last 2 sentences still makes it conflict with what you said, so.
  3. "You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day" :glare: I totally agree with you. I still know people who wouldn't be comfortable and that's fine but the fact that people gawk is just ridiculous. I've seen it in public with people staring and it's usually not children staring either - it's adults. Who should know better.
  4. Could you call the doctor and ask them to check the records or give you a copy?
  5. "Studies have not established that emergency contraceptive pills prevent fertilized eggs from implanting in the womb, leading scientists say. Rather, the pills delay ovulation, the release of eggs from ovaries that occurs before eggs are fertilized, and some pills also thicken cervical mucus so sperm have trouble swimming." Addressing the issue in a 2005 memorandum, Dr. Steven Galson, director of the F.D.A.’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, wrote that studies “conclusively demonstrate†that Plan B’s ability to block ovulation, is “responsible for most, if not all, instances in which emergency contraception prevents pregnancy.†By 2007, scientific consensus was building that morning-after pills did not block implantation. In one study using fertilized eggs that would have been discarded from fertility clinics, Dr. Gemzell-Danielsson found that adding Plan B in a dish did not prevent them from attaching to cells that line the uterus. Later, in 2007, 2009 and 2010, researchers in Australia and Chile gave Plan B to women after determining with hormone tests which women had ovulated and which had not. None who took the drug before ovulation became pregnant, underscoring how Plan B delays ovulation. Women who had ovulated became pregnant at the same rate as if they had taken no drug at all. In those cases, there were no difficulties with implantation, said one of the researchers, Gabriela Noé, at the Instituto Chileno de Medicina Reproductiva in Santiago. Dr. Blithe of the N.I.H., said, “No one can say that it works to inhibit implantation based on these data.†There's more here. And in many other links. I won't bother pasting it all because it'll take up pages.
  6. People are also conveniently ignoring the fact that Hobby invested in contraception manufacturers. Obviously a real strong belief. :iagree:
  7. This was basically our case too. I understand wanting a second opinion but acting like any ortho that recommends you get some teeth pulled just loooooves pulling teeth is ridiculous.
  8. Oh, and if dating should only be done when you're planning on marriage, should gay people never date? Considering they can't marry in most states. Honestly, if you want your daughter/son to be a certain age I get it. I think maturity isn't just based on age so I wouldn't set one, but I do agree they need to be at a certain level of maturity before they can handle relationships. But it's perfectly fine to be in a relationship without planning on getting married soon. You can get lots out of relationships. I don't get how you can think the whole point of a relationship is marriage. Is that when it suddenly becomes fulfilling for you? When you have a ceremony? What changes, exactly?
  9. It's usually counted as social studies (a social science really) at the schools wherever I've been. You could count it as a normal science, but I definitely wouldn't use it as something to meet a requirement like "needs 3 sciences," because people might consider it social studies.
  10. What's the point of not? Not everyone is looking for marriage. Should they never date?
  11. Plenty date without having sex. And you can get STDs at any age. Protection exists for a reason.
  12. Well, that's not a surprise. Here's a link.
  13. Are people really avoiding dating because they can't immediately getting married? Are people not capable of waiting a few years? If your relationship won't last without immediate marriage that seems like a problem.
  14. Definitely agree with the first bit. DD's top choice private school would be cheaper for us than a lot of in state things we've looked at, just because their endowments so big. I'm glad we researched it instead of just blowing it off as oh, we could never afford anything like that. As for community college, it's really hard to get the classes you want here. It's a pretty good school but that doesn't matter if you can't get important classes. Ds had so much trouble with it and I know other people have too.
  15. Theres a big difference between saying certain jobs are needed and the economy is awful. Need is always going to change. Denying the economy is awful right now is ridiculous.
  16. The fact that people think a normal person would be able to smell a normal cat is laughable, honestly. Litterbox? When you're in the room with it, probably. That makes sense. Actual cat? no.
  17. This made me look it up though, and apparently it varies. Most people seem to agree the millennial gen started in the early 1980s but after that it goes from 1994 to 2004. I guess DD might be considered a millennial then.
  18. I think comparing cats to some animals that are illegal to own as pets in most states is a bit extreme. I'm shocked that people are so opposed to animals but won't list them on the least. Just say no animal besides 1 dog. Eliminates all confusion.
  19. I don't get what you mean here- "As if the girl has the power to resist the boys advances and just maintain a friendship, no matter how hard the boy tries to the contrary. " ? In regards to the third part, as I said, I know people use it to mean that. As I also said though, if you looked it up you would find many things about how bad it is.
  20. I've never seen something just called economics that was actually about personal finances. Personal finances courses are usually titled something simple including the word finances, or money management or something. There are some economics courses that have it tied in but I wouldn't assume it had it unless it specifically mentioned it in the title.
  21. Oh, disregard the time advisories! They're meant to be faster paced because it's not really made for high schoolers (although can certainly be used by them). I believe it's assuming that you're only doing one course at a time, too. If you look under course information you'll see that it's around 144.5 hours to complete. 120-180 is usually standard for a credit if you're counting it that way. It only seems like a lot when you try to cram it into one short period of time. If you have a year, I wouldn't worry. eta: As for how long it took DD, it was probably a bit more than 144.5 because she works slow with everything when she's at home. But it really wasn't time consuming at all. We usually did an hour a day, and if you did that for 180 days it'd be more than the whole course (180 is the normal and suggest amount of days here, although you may not follow it).
  22. I don't doubt that teenage girls use the friend zoned term, btw. They obviously don't mean harm against themselves. But some quick googling will show you it is widely used as a way to guilt girls for not dating any boy who is nice to them. As for actual advice, I think the public places rule is pretty good. I'd think that'd be a good rule even for adults. I don't really set any specific rules because I wouldn't even know where to begin. I think most of it isn't my place to decide for DD. I just try to give her the best advice I can when she asks and I let her know dh and I are always open to talk about things and won't get angry if she messes up. Of course I don't know how much of that actually goes through, but we're all pretty close and I'd like to think most does.
